What's that Blue Stuff under my Car???

So I got home from a trip yesterday afternoon and the wife had the MCSa off to work!

I glanced over at the parking spot and saw a trail of liquid in the spot where the car is usually parked! At first glance I thought the 2 foot line of liquid ending in a small puddle I saw was simply condensation from the A/C but was surprised that fluid was still there as I knew my wife had left hours earlier. On closer inspection it was blue.....so I tested it and sure enough it was hydraulic (read ATF) fluid!!!

Bummer considering we only have 3100 miles on the car with 45 days under our belt!

We're taking it in tomorrow morning......I'll let you know what happens!

I must agree with the Bummer part.

Do let us know what the dealer discovers. I am trying to keep track of these happenings, just so we can know what to watch for.

The BMW automatic transmissions have always been fiercely protected by BMW. When I was in service work we did not dare open one up, or the warranty was void, and they would not accept it as a core on a rebuild.

On the good side, we had very few problems with them.

It is an advantage to have this type of thing happen while the car is newer. Not much to argue about, and they will do you right.

Good luck,

Jim

Wow, that sucks!

Seems a little ominous that the first person on here to put any real miles on their car has that happen - especially given the trouble they seem to be having getting the JCW kit on market.

Good luck with it!

Were you able to get an update? Never knew that the transmissions have blue colored fluid. I test drove a cooper S auto and after our hot lap around the block the car had blueish green liquid spilling out. MA inspected under the hood and found out that the tech's never tightened the coolant expansion tank cover. Hope its nothing serious. Well please keep us informed.

All is well in MCSa Land!!!

Just got the car back from the dealer and it was a false alarm! That's the good news.

Seems that the suspicious liquid I found on the floor of the garage was in fact coolant....and do I feel silly! I consider myself a pretty good "Wrench" and swear that the stuff felt "Oily" and not like coolant when I tested it, but apparently according to the MA the factory overfilled the overflow container at the factory and this caused the overflow onto the floor the other day.

The bad news is that I really feel a bit foolish....sorry for the false alarm guys!

Hey but at least I can think about the JCW kit again!!!

Whew !!

Glad to hear that it was minor. Nothing beats the panic when you see an apparent flaw in a brand new car. Thanks for the update.
