Offline | Thanks for the test, it shows that your OBC is working as it should be. My main problem is when at rest, the fuel consumption goes up through the roof to what should equate to racing around a track at full throttle. When in motion, though, the fuel consumption drops as it should when lifting off the gas and cruising. Stop and it goes up again!!!! Dutchy. Sadly INIMINI is gone, but never forgotten. |

Offline | But,... isn't this is exactly what should happen? ![]() Sitting there without moving means that No Miles are being logged into OBC memory, therefore miles per gallon goes way down (fuel consumption "goes up") . Offline | Ok, did some experimenting on engine braking versus using brake pads MPG. The better MPG may be more due to driving style & psychology than any physics. When I tap the brakes to make a turn, the car slows down quite a bit and I have to hit the gas again when I come out of the turn. When I downshift before a turn, the car doesn't actually slow down that much but I just get the psychological impression that I can navigate the turn with more control. So some people probably experience less gas used for slowing down/speeding up when turning. |

Offline | In theory, yes. But my OBC reads up to 30 L/100 kms, I have yet to find anyone else here on M2 that has the same readout with their OBC. I guess it is reading fuel used for the number of klms travelled - this would rise when stationary. If it read AVG fuel/gas actually used at any one point, then it should drop. When I have the actual fuel consumption displayed on my speedo (2003 model, so has to be done manually), it reads about 9-10L/100klms when driving and 0L/100klms when stationary and zero acceleration, this should then drop the Litres used per 100 kilometres (raise mpg). Anyway, this is OT. I think the discussion is changing from engine braking versus braking. I really don't see a difference, because I don't apply the clutch until almost stopped, so I basically do both. When I used to have an auto in my celica, I used to change down the gears as well - four speed auto. This eliminated the delay in kickdown when I tried to accelerate again, with out stopping. It was more fun too! Dutchy. Sadly INIMINI is gone, but never forgotten. |

Offline | I understood that the OBC reads out in the Tachometer, all models worldwide, not the Speedometer? Our display reads just the opposite (Miles/Gallon) of the one you describe (Litres/Kilometer), so I would guess you have a display option engaged that we didn't know was there! MINI has many selections that can be "programmed" into the EMS2000 and the OBC. There are many, many code combinations, some of them quite interesting. You should just ask the dealer to change it to the way you want it.
