Smile CVT Cooper for a week, and questions?

I have a press CVT Cooper for a week (£17k's worth!).

If you have any questions you'd like me to answer when I do my write up(s) let me know.

Paul

Could you compare the responsiveness and passing abilites to the CVT and regular tranny? I think there's a lot of people out there who would enjoy hearing an objective opinion on this.

To elaborate on Electrc109's thoughts: How about a comparison to a manual transmission overall. It seems most of the discussion on CVTs is people who only drive automatics or want an automatic for some reason. I'd like to see some discussion from the 'why would I spend $1200 on this option' view, just like why would I get any other option.

And don't forget SpyCar's topic. Do you like its creep feature?

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

Is it just me or are you two replying to an almost-a-year-and-a-half old topic?

Our cars are a year and a half old. So, I guess we weould be talking about a topic of such an age.

It was brand new (2 miles on clock when I collected it). Obviously I drove carefully as it was running in - and stuck to the MPH and tried to stick to the RPM limit as per the manuel.

Problem was, try as I might, I could not stop the CVT box taking me over the rev limit for running in (all the time).

Try the RPM thingy when you drive it.

Is there an answer?

thanks

Max

When I was runnig in my MC/CVT, I noticed that it's very easy to go over the 4000 line. This is partly due to the way that the ECU "drives" the car. For example, when you set the gas pedal in a particular position, it's the ECU that calculates what revs/slip to get you to that speed. This takes a little while to get used to, and is something covered by numerous cvt threads.

Of course, once you get used to the way the car 'goes', it's very easy to use and it's something you come to rely on.

I guess another way pof saying it is that the CVT box doesn't behave like an auto box, and you shouldn't expect it to.

HTH...
