EST 0-60/ 1/4 mile times

We might be switching from an Dodge neon (140bhp) and those 0-60 are around 9.5 to the CVT cooper and wanted to know if the coop wold actully be slower. This is a big issue for us
Anyone?

The MINI Cooper CVT will be slower than 9.5sec from a full stop to 60mph, objectively measured in a controlled situation like a drag strip. You can find posts scattered in several Forums where this question was engaged. Check out the Racing (as in drag racing) and this CVT Forum, using Search. We've had several Threads with measured numbers. The Stickies above may help too.

The MINI experience has never needed 0-60 performance. None of the models, even Cooper S or JCW, are particularly "Fast" (in a muscle car way), but we've found them to be "Quick" and very attractive in any performance context.

I love telling the story of taking our CVT-equipped car to the Friday night street drags sponsored by the Portland Police Dept (OR) on the track there. One night, we were soundly beaten to 1/8mi and to 1/4mi by a Mustang, a NOS-equipped Honda, and by a vintage Pontiac GTO in our three runs (76mph, 18.5sec).

But, the crowds gathered around us in Staging to see the motor and to ask why the motor didn't change rpm (CVT-mode). We were quicker "than expected" (which is the best situation). The girls said the car was cute, to the dismay of guys in much more powerful machines. And,... we were very consistent (except my reaction time!).

The MINI CVT absolutely shines in an autocross course or on a road circuit, and it is one of the very best machines to simply motor on the street.

I think the actual performance of the CVT MC is around the upper 9's to low 10's for the 0-60 run. But, it has been reported by some test drivers that it feels fast and quite capable once moving.

I rented a Dodge Neon for a trip to LA. It may claim to have more HP than a MINI Cooper but it certainly didn't not seem to be faster. It was frightening trying to merge onto freeways. The steering was scary as hell on any highway that wasn't 100% straight.
