United-Kingdom Do you pay for your courtesy Car...? PLEASE READ

Robert Stern, MINI's 'flagship dealer of the year' want to charge me £18.80 for a courtesy car for my inspection 1 service....

Do your dealership charge you for their courtesy cars and if so how much. The Service Manager at RS tells its a common policy.....

I was told ar Wellsway that there would be a charge of about 20 quid, and also it would delay my service appointment for about 2 weeks as the car(s) was booked up for a while ie I would have to wait about 3-4 weeks for a service appointment.
Didnlt take them up on their offer.....

The dealer I bought my S off doesn't charge for loan cars, but another local dealer does.

I think it depends on the dealership!!

The charge is for the insurance cover, your own insurance co might cover you FOC for the time you have the loan car. I'll post a bit more detail in a bit...............

You should try getting your MINI serviced at Lloyds Carlisle. Excellent service, no charge ever for MINI courtesy cars and have even been given brand new 3 series and an X3 before as courtesy cars.

Dark Silver/Black MCS (Carlisle) - Now Stopped Drooling..............Now sitting in Lloyds MINI very cherished dept!!

Minnie Mouse is all that is left.......

The last time i needed a courtesy car, my dealers told me i had to insure myself on it for the few days i would have it.

Fair enough i thought, but when i called my insurance company they told me that if the courtesy car was already insured by the dealers (very likely) then I wouldn't be able to put it on my policy as it is ILLEGAL to have two insurance policies on one car!

Courtesy cars must be already be insured as they have road tax on them.

So does this mean that technically a main dealer shouldn't be asking you to insure a courtesy car?

Anyone know what the score is with insuring courtesy cars???

My dealer charges £11 plus VAT for using their loan cars , or they arrange for a taxi to drop you off and pick you up again
