What possess people to arrange a handover on a car that hasn't arrived? Deanquartermaine was supposed to pick up his Cooper Park Lane today, but couldn't for the same reason!

In 10 years of selling cars I have never even dreamt of arranging a handover with a customer until I have actually seen and touched the car, but in the space of a few days I have heard of two dealers that obviously do - is it any wonder we are fighting a losing battle with the bad reputation we are given?

I hardly think Mr Lovett himself is to blame, and lowering yourself to the level of insulting his name is not the most mature way to make a point, is it?

I think it's time to renegotiate the terms of your contract with the garage, i.e. a reduction in cost, 12 mths tax, full tank of fuel etc. Tell them if they can't give you a
date you want your money back and you will shop else where !!

Good luck mate

PS - I know it's not what you want to hear, but I collected my 55 plate MCS with JC engine upgrade from Cotswold in Gloucester today. No pictures yet as I have only just got in from driving it all day. This includes taking the wife and kids on numerous test drives.
I do hope you collect your's soon as there's nothing worse than looking forward to a
special day only to have it ruined by somebody else's incompetence.

As pointed out by Scrogg I was suppose to be picking up by Park Lane today, not arrived at dealers on Friday same as you. Seems that MINI are having some issues with getting cars to dealers at the moment.

I'm now suppose to be getting mine on Tuesday. Hope you get yours soon.

I find it very hard to believe they can't give you a delivery date, surely they can track the car as it's being built etc and where it is? I remember the dealer did with mine. I'd be inclined to take my custom elsewhere if they are being wishy washy.

Blimey i thought the irish were meant to have a sense of humour.

i see your a dealer (i think) from the first post.

doesnt help when dealers round our end have the highest inflation in the whole of europe does it.

if you didnt get your car on the day promised there was obviously some kind of slacking, or lack of communication at either end.

We do have a sense of humour, but it usually only shows when we're drunk!

I agree totally about the lack of communication, but it is solely from the dealer's end. I find it hard to believe that Alex told his dealer he was collecting his car today and they just went along with it?

We all want to keep our customers happy, but how difficult is it to say that a delivery date cannot be arranged until the car has arrived at the dealership? Any customer that is unhappy with this is just being unreasonable.

I'm handing a GP over on Monday morning - the customer found out today - guess how happy he is?

JG.26...I agree with you. I cannot understand how the dealer gave a date to have the vehicle picked up as there is also the PDI to perform! My UK dealer could tell me day to day what was happening to my car as it was being built.

BTW whats this ZOINTS thingie I have under my siggie?

We all can. Some either chose not to or just can't be bothered!

Sadly, the Motor Trade still has a vast number of 'old school' Sales Execs who still believe that the process of selling a car ends when the order is signed, and see the most time-consuming bit (actually getting the customer into their new car) as a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.

Thankfully, though, with increasing competition and pressure from the manufacturers, these dinosaurs are gradually being either pensioned off or forced to leave the job (usually claiming it was their choice and that it is 'no fun anymore' or some other bull that stops them having to admit they are at fault!)

Puts Soapbox away for the night!

haha

I agree scrogg that the dealer HAS to do the checks on the car before it can leave. but surely there should be some leeway given on the date promised to the customer. its not a just in time system that is used is it?
