Soke to salesman today and asked to wait for March delivery on 07 plate. The salesman said that they would have to speak to their manager on monday, but that the manager had not allowed somebody else to do this! (Suggesting reasons of it being part of the Jan allocation and preventing somebody else from having the Jan allocation! - whether i take the car in jan or march is not going to make any difference to anybody else!)

I'll have to wait and see I suppose, but its not like they can force me to hand over £18k in Jan!

The 'preventing someone else having the allocation' line is a classic!

I never used it myself, but I've heard it said many times, and sometimes people actually fall for it!

As you have already said, they can't force you to part with £18k, and they also can't force you to supply them with an insurance cover-note to register the car, so if you stick to your guns they will give in.

Worst case scenario is they will sell your car to someone else, in which case you can just get your deposit back and order another one somewhere else, but this is highly unlikely.

spoke to dealer today and they said that they cannot hold the car until march because their insurance does not allow them to hold the car for that long, and that they get audited on this (sounds like rubbish to me!)

Also asked if i could insure the car so they can register it etc! I said i would get back to them

I can smell what they are shovelling from here!

If they are that worried about it, tell them you will pay for the car when it arrives and store it in your garage until March 1st.

As I've said before, they can't register it without your insurance, so stick to your guns.

It emerged that my car got delivered early and was available for collection last thursday!

After an incredibly painful week with no car (didn't realise quite how much i relied upon upon it) I decided to take the new car now.

It is very good and so much faster than old cooper. Some torque steer and wheel spin though (LSD would have been good if available) Not overly impressed with lack of bass from hifi upgrade).
