Dealer Labour Rates

Afternoon,

I have an accessory to fit which should take an hour, therefore without going round the houses, does anyone know within the M25, how much their local dealers' charges for the labour charge per hour ?

I don't mind driving out to the home counties if the price is justified....

Thanks

You will find that dealer have two rates, the one they charge the punter that walks in and wants work done, and the rate they charge to sales i.e. for those customers that are ordering cars

Worth trying to push for the sales rate, as it tends to be about £20 an hour cheaper

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

Thats the rate that they charge the punter, did you buy the car there?

If so speak to your sales guy, or try and build up a relationship with the service guys, the sales rate will be about £70-80 an hour

Although how much do you think the dealer pays the guys doing the work, and with their costs, you'll find that labour cost to a dealer is around £20-30 an hour, the rest is profit, so work on it, if its a good dealer then things can be negotiated to retain your business.

Some jobs are easier to negotiate on than others, as they aren't as labour intensive, such as the ipod link, thats why you'll find I'm paying £195 for the job with parts, compared to some people that are paying over £400 for the same job

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

Well the respect goes the other way, a lot of us realise how lucky we are to have such a great guy like Chris on here or to visit and have work done by, I'm one of them and there is nothing like a visit to see them, although you can't just pop in, and I always end up chatting for a couple of hours with him

Lind in Maidstone quoted £125 an hour to do a job on a cooper gearbox for a client the otherday - unsprisingly it came to us instead!!! (its a 7-8 hour job plus identifcation of the fault at a dealers)

Been ringing round today and the best quote seemed to be from Lind Maidstone @ £112.80/hr, where the rest of the dealers were charging around the £150 mark

Had enough of these ludicrous prices so I've ended up with MStyle in Romford for a respectable £50 an hour

glad to hear that healthy relationships can be built up between us & the customer! Although over on the BMW service side of Woodmans I still see some of my old customers come in from the other dealer I used to work for and now use Woodmans for service... just cos I work there & they know I'll look after their car & their invoice

My local dealer used to have a mini accessory labour rate of £30/hour ...which worked out quite well when they spent 10 hours fitting the works kit ...their normal rate is close to £70 though

Sorry to ressurect this old thread but did a quick search on Broadoak mini re their charges and this popped up!

I would love to know what they actually charge? I am picking up our new mini in a few weeks and wanted the driving lights as an extra, they have quoted me £450 to supply and fit with the part price being £183, this means for the quoted 1h 30m fitting time they are charging £178 per hr which is ridiculous! I then rang Cooper Mini in Maidstone who charge £363 for the same job £120 per hr (still seems pretty high but a hell of a lot cheaper than Barretts. Just wondering how much it is worth shopping around when adding accessories after purchase?

£450.00 + £183.00 is very high. If I remember rightly people used to get quotes of around £450.00 to supply and fit the spots.

If the Mini Cooper price is supply and fit, which it looks like it is, it seems very reasonable.

Nope it is £450 incl supply and fit. Just dont understand how an hour and half fitting time translates into the price!!! Especially as another dealer can do the same job for £90 less?

Have you queried where Broadoak Mini get £178.00ph from because as you say it is, it does seem excessive.

Coopers price seems about right, in fact I just phoned Cooper Sevenoaks they charge £135.36ph inc Vat on cars under 4 years old and then £116.33ph over 4 years old. So the quote from Coopers is correct.
