No dealer in my area = Warranty void?

I live in the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago about 900 miles west of the mainland. I bought an MCS through a dealer in the mainland since there are no dealers in my area. The dealer even paid for shipping.

In last November, during a routine tire change at the corner shop, a defective wheel hub was found in the front left wheel. I called the dealer and to my surprise the warranty was not activated. The reason: the car had to be seen by an authorized MINI dealer. Well, in my case the dealer and I are 900 miles of water apart!

I contacted BMW Portugal and the answer was the same. Tried to contact BMW Europe but my question was forwarded back to Portugal.

My question is this, is this legal not to mention ethical? I bought a product in a EU country with a 2 year warranty and now, because there is no dealer i my area (because BMW does not think it would be a good move) i have to pay for all malfunctions in my MCS?

I feel cheated and i was wondering if any of you know where i can go with my complaint assuming i have reason on my side.

Goodness, that is a difficult situation!

You may want to check with the Filipino members. There are a few who bought MINIs without any dealers in their country.
