Its a rip off, car is built in the UK, but its half the price in the USA.
I was looking at a Honda Civic this morning, more car for the £.

Probably find that a Civic in the US is also way cheaper than you get over here...

...we certainly do get stuffed price wise in the UK.

I don’t know how much cheaper the US car is but the uk one is seriously over priced. Customers spec there car thinking there getting the car they want and to an extent that’s true but most of the spec should just come as standard.

When you look at other cars thee fully spec’d above the mini as standard.

I drive an old Honda Civic that I’ve had since new. I spec’d my mini and it comes to 18K and that’s me holding back and trying to compromise but then I went to a Honda dealer and I could get a fully spec’d Honda Jeep black with every option going for –leather heated seats, heated front windscreen, full electrical package, Sat nav, phone, plugged in coolbox etc for17K and all I could think was the jeep was a lot of car for the money when the Mini had nothing on it other that its cute looks.

If the same Mini was well spec’d and around 12K it be on the drive already.
But there is the supposed new car tax dropping on the D that might cut the price!

When I see “’I’ve just spent 23K on my Mini” I always think Wow do you see what other cars you can get for that money!

No one will argue that the Mini is not overpriced, but it is still a unique car and not part of the 'bland crowd'. On top of this you have to take residuals into account, as it's the price to change that's important..............unless you're buying your first Mini.

I trade my April 06 ( 19K ) R53MCS Chili in on Friday for an R56MCS Works and lost 3 1/2k. How many cars can you do that with !

That Jeep would probably be work 3 1/2k after 18 months

Still that’s some hit on your wallet, but then you've traded in so soon after you bought it, Considering its an older version I suppose I’d be happy to get that. I’d be keeping mine a minimum of three years so that first year hit would be more balanced over the other two years.

Unfortunately there getting less and less unique a car, in fact lately everyone and there gran has one. When they first came out I loved seeing a mini on the road and would even park next to them to gat a look, now I still look but its like “ well there is a mini, oh and there is another five sitting at light"

My friends wife went from her 53 Mini to the New VW beetle as she thought they were getting too common

When i said unique i meant more that each one is different and there is no other car that feels so different to sit in at this price bracket anyway.

I wasn't planning to change so soon but this trade in price together with the money that i'll save each month on fuel for a car thats faster and better riding........and kinder to the enviroment

I also got free TLC, JCW Tuning kit fitted for £1185, Upgrade JCW 18" Alloys for £700 and free fitting, free JCW kick plates plus free fitting and a free set of spare front & rear bumpers + sideskirts..........just in case somebody bumps me

MPG does it for me as well......Embarrassingly I’ve not driven the New Mini yet, so hope the test drive when I get round to it impresses.

I know its slightly off topic as I bought a used R53 Cooper S, but I got a good trade in for my old car, a full £500 over book price, but considering it was highly specced up its not as great as you might think. They wouldn't budge on the price of the MINI, but threw in some bonnet stripes and fitted them free of charge

Was very happy with the discount I got on my MCS. The dealer had a slot in production, so worked out well. Was built while I was on hols and picked up last saturday.

really pleased with it.

If anyone not happy with their dealer let me know - as the manager at mine is a top guy.

I brought a 2006 R50? Cooper (Chilli Pack) with 17" Bullets and a few other extras - got £500 off, with Full Tank of Fuel, 12 Month Road Tax, Flowers (for the girlfriend), a 'cuddly' mini toy thingy and the dealership even 'gift-wrapped' it...how....

As many people have previously said - walk away after the test drive with the figures and wait!
- you can also give them a little 'prod' with deals other dealerships are giving too!

I had my girlfriend call the dealership and ask when their year-end was, this funny enough also tied in with that months end, so I just played the "wait until the end of the month" game when they have to get their figures in! (Yes, I'm a sales manager!)

Apparently I have heard that MINI sales teams are targetted in selling 3 MINI's a week - which isn't actaully a lot for a car that sells itself - so make them work for it!

I only get to drive my MINI once a week - BOY WHAT A DAY THAT IS!

- I know this is 'off' the MINI subject, but I have just spec'd one of these for my Dad as a company car, I sent 4 faxes off to 4 different dealerships and they all gave me a min of 5% off plus extras!

Even thought this was a business quote, all you would have to do is pay the VAT for a private sale - they aren't to know (as you have to pay VAT and claim it back as a business anyway) - still a 5% saving + extras without walking into a dealership and negoitating with an anoying sales rep!

- works for most other cars too...except BMW!

I've just taken delivery of my Cooper.
My local dealer was adamant that they were unable to give a discount. I did a bit of searching and came across autobytel.co.uk. I contacted them and they said they could do me a deal of about 2% and they would pass my details onto their local dealer, who just happened to be the people I'd already spoken to.
Next time I went in to test drive I asked about the discount, this time their answer was "we've been authorised by autobytel to give you the discount..." So one free phone call and I've saved £500!!
It turns out that they and the dealers are all owned by Inchcape hence the cooperation.
Worth a try?

I had my rear window tints thrown in for free the GAP insurance and the supa guard stuff, there is always a deal to be had somewhere if you stand up and walk away with your money
