MINI staff discount

Do BMW/MINI dealership employees get any staff discounts on new MINIs they buy for themselves or their family?

If so, what's the typical % off?

Generally, no.

Although most dealer groups (especially the larger ones) offer staff purchase schemes for new cars they are still sticking firmly to their 'no discount' rule with MINI.

Yep, especially when they do get discounts on most BMWs

Do MINI dealership staff get free cars for their own use?

I thought sales staff and others with supervisory/management type posts did.

A next door neighbour of a few years back worked for a Renault dealer and it seemed he had the pick of the best cars on the forecourt to come home in every night!

Not free, no. They pay company car tax, which can often be as much as it would cost to buy the car on finance.

The dealerships would also have to pay their staff a better salary if they didn't provide them with cars. As they have to run demonstrators it makes more financial sense for them to allow staff to drive them home than pay the same staff more.

It's usually the Sales Executives and Department Managers (Service/Parts/Bodyshop etc) that get the use of a demonstrator, but some dealerships give them to Service/Parts Advisors and Sales Administrators as well.

Some dealerships will allow sales staff to take a part-exchange home (if it has tax on the screen of course ) but most don't as they are often not covered on their insurance for private use.

I am not sure about the dealerships, but I do know that employee's of BMW (UK) who work at the Thorne distribution depot are able to get a discount for friends and family.

My brother works for them and my last two mini's have been bought through the scheme. On Mini's you save 13% before VAT is added (works out about 15% saving once VAT etc is added on). On BMW series cars you save a bit more - I think it is 17% before VAT.

I saved over £2500 on my S - not bad when you cant get the dealers to knock anything off.

Yes, I can confirm that employees of the Oxford plant also get a family and friends discount of about £2,000 or more depending on what you order!

I think it depends on a dealership... Company car tax costs me just under 60pounds a month, and I got my sister a Cooper-s convertible for cost price
