Angry those idiots at the dealership

My MINI got molested!

I ordered a roof rack and the parts finally came in. I dropped my MINI Copper S off at the shop this morning to have it installed. I called them to check on the status to find out that those idiots in the shop drilled a hole in the wrong spot. They missed by 2 inches. How can you be that stupid... 2 inches! That's a huge margin of error. So my car will be in the shop until they can fill that hole and repaint the roof.

I won't have my car for about 2 weeks and I'm going to be stuck driving a rental car, because they don't have a loaner program. Arggggg!!!!!!!!!

Name names...

Who were the morons who screwed up your MINI? Others might want to avoid them.

EDIT: I'd also contact MINIUSA and pitch a fit, asking them to pressure the dealer into providing you with a loaner while they fix *their* mistake.

Did you talk to your salesman? I am sure if you talk to Scott he can help you with a loaner car of some sort. Are they at least paying for the rental car? I know it sucks that there isnt a MINI loaner car program but we are currently on a MINI budget...Hope you understand.

Geez, how the heck did they do that? If that was my car, I'd be ranting and raving at the dealer and let MINI USA know what happened. I mean, there is a HOLE in your roof and no matter how they repair it, it will never be the same. I'd actually ask for a replacement car as it is now damaged goods. Will they warrant the repair for life? What about rust or patch marks on your roof? What about structural integrity? Just a few questions I'd have for the dealer. Just my $.02

you make a very good point and all of those things have crossed my mind. They are telling me that the body shop warrant the work for at least 10 years or something like that. I'm not perticulary happy that is needs repair at all. They all said that they will redo the work if I'm not happy with the result. I've tried to ask for a full roof replacement, but I'm not sure how far up the ladder I have to bark at to get that done. But in the mean time, they put me in a CRAPPY Ford Focus in the mean time.

As for getting a replacement car all together will be very hard. I would have to wait for an identicle car to come and then there is the price difference and milage that I have to deal with. If it were a lease or financed through the BMW, then it might be a little easier to do the switched. I financed the car through my own credit union. I'm going to talk to everyone I can get on the phone to ***** at and try to get as much out of this that I can.

I understand what you're saying but,

What does this mean?

Hope you're not out to make a buck. The repair will be an easy one (a quarter inch hole), but it will be a repair so I understand your concern about fit and finish however this repair will be a lot less noticeable then an entire roof replacement.

It sounds like they are more then willing to stand by their work (10 year warranty - GET IT IN WRITING). Also Have the dealership "clay" the car and polish it prior to your picking it up. No matter how hard the shop tries to protect your car, overspray happens.

Good luck

I would much rather have them fill a small hole than replace the entire roof!

There's all kinds of ways to screw up replacing the roof panel. Kind of hard to screw up filling a hole.

A little sheet metal welded in, sanded, primed and painted. If the paintwork is done to MINI factory standards, it should be no problem.

No, I'm not trying to make a buck out of this. As far as I can tell, I'm the one loosing out and continue to loose out until I get my car back. at this point, I can't drive a car that i'm making payments for. I've already cancel 2 trips because I don't have my car to drive. I can't take the rental car, because I'm limited to 200 miles and I can't leave the state. Secondly, the rental doesn't have a cd player. Half the fun of the road enjoying the drive, and I can't enjoy my drive without the MINI.

Once they return my car back to me, I'm going to be driving around in damage goods. The thing that bothers me most is that the idiot that damage my car is someone I'm paying an over-priced labor rate for. I just want to be compensated fairly for my trouble and my damage car.

Understandable, thanks for the clarification

Not that you owed me one. Hope all works out for you, but don't ask them about a roof change, it won't go over well. As for your frustration of not having the car and the price you're paying so that someone could screw it up is also understandable and the dealer should waive all labor cost associated with the initial install and the repair. I think he's making a fair offer with the 10-year warranty to insure you are happy with the repair for a long time.

I've been in contact with the body shop that is doing the actually work. They seem to be very helpful and understanding of my situation. They will also guarantee the work for as long as I own the car. That fact makes me feel a lot better.

Yikes!!!
Sorry to hear about your dealer's screw up.

Perhaps you do not want to hear this but
someone has posted shots of a Yakima rack
on the "exterior" forum.

I would make sure your roof paint job
is PERFECT!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!!

Guarantee

May I suggest that you get the guarantee from Mini and not the body shop. If you ever need to make a claim against the guarantee, you may get caught in a finger-pointing circle.

I've learned from experience.
