Not happy with MINI Warrington... is it me being picky?

Hi,

I bought a brand new Cooper D a week or so ago and in that time I've found a few minor but niggly faults. I took it to BMW in Warrington this morning and they're trying to say everything's fine but to me it's not.

The faults are:
  • Selecting reverse gear is a nightmare most of the time... I have to move the stick all the way to the right and then all the way to the left a couple of times to get it into reverse. Surely that's not normal even for a new car?
  • The indicator on the computer that tells you what gear I should be in for best economy was working fine for several days but then it just disappeared one day. BMW are saying my car doesn't even have this function... of course it does, it was working for a few days and the salewoman pointed it out on the test car.
  • The tachometer seems to be ever so slightly angled to the left which is a little annoying... BMW technician says it looks fine to him... I would have thought it should be bang on central?
  • Auto headlights are coming on during the day. When it's sunny they're fine but on a grey\dull day they come on so to me they're too sensitive... BMW are telling me that the setting for the headlights being on in the day was turned on so they turned it off and it should be fine. This is rubbish because I turned the setting off myself after a member on here told me it could be that which was causing it.
  • I closed the boot the other day by pulling the interior handle on the boot lid. I heard something snap inside and now the boot trim is a little loose but BMW says it's fine. I don't think it is and certainly should be able to take more abuse than that?
  • The final thing (for now) is that in the instruction manual it says if you hold down the boot release button on the key fob, it sets the alarm off (panic alarm). Mine doesn't do this and BMW are saying that UK models don't do it... is this right?

All your comments are appreciated but I'm really not happy with the way the garage are handling things.

If I hold my boot button down, it opens the boot
I've never had the panic alarm go off on me.

I would take the MINI somewhere else if Warrington are fobbing you off.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Thanks... yeah the boot does open but that's if the car's already unlocked. According to the manual, if the car's locked and you hold down the boot release button, the panic alarm goes off.

I'm thinking it would be good for finding your car in a car park etc.

I think that's right about the panic alarm

as for the gear indicator thingy, I had a 320d loaner yesterday, and I found you could turn that on and off! not sure what it's like on the MINI, as I have one of the earlier R56's that doesn't have the feature, but when you press the OBC button, do you eventually come to whats effectively a blank line (i.e. no fuel range showing)? if so, press and hold the OBC button until something happens!

I didn't want to see this thread as mines going there in 2 weeks . One of the sales team keeps telling me the wrong things. I'm getting a roof decal fitted and they have checked ones (which i want) especially for the ones with the sunroof (which i have) and were telling me i was wrong etc etc and I got a phone call later saying they were wrong. I am considering cancelling and taking it elsewhere.

Sounds like that might be the right decision. From the phone call, it sounds like they haven't exactly instilled confidence in the dealership. Do you want to let those people loose on your car?

No you won't get charged and I'd personally go somehwre else... although I haven't spoken to any other MINI service people from other garage to know where to recommend.

118... you're probably right about the gear thingy being controlled in the computer but it's not even mentioned in the owner's handbook! The service guy I'm dealing with is adament it isn't even a feature on the MINI. To me it seems like I'd get treated properly if I owned a BMW but as I own a MINI I don't seem important... it's such a bad attitude.

Hopefully they'll sort it all out though... I'll keep the thread updated

Definately make the trip up there if you have the time. Pretty much guarantees everything to be fixed and excellent service.
Have you looked at the forum for another dealer close by to you?

If only they weren't so far away from me down here too!

Still, their offers on parts and accessories are unbeatable

Yeah Halliwell Jones finally sorted it after having to speak to MINI and ask them how to turn it back on. They were trying to tell me my car didn't have that feature which is what annoyed me

It's a W!££!@ms (Sorry for swearing) dealer so generally you're better off sticking with Warrington. Useless. Rochdale is the reason I use Woodmans.

One good thing about Rochdale is they don't treat you any differently to BMW owners. They get treated just as badly as we do, just ask my friend.

I just got back from picking up my car, I was getting a full roof checkerboard decal...they only did my sun roof so I didn't get what I asked for. I am absolutely livid. Nobody there seems to know anything about anything there and the service department lack any real product knowledge on the MINI (and anything else to be honest). I have to wait for a phone call tomorrow and to see whay they say anyway, needless to say I won't be going there again.

I know, I haven't been this annoyed about anything in ages. I kept asking over and over was it the full roof one and was told it was too. I hope it gets rectified or I get compensated in some way although I am not too hopeful having read some of the stories on here!

They're absolute C.R.A.P aren't they! Did you get that jumped up little David guy? My car's still not right but I'm gonna try and find a different garage to deal with who actually know about "that other" grage next to theirs... with a big MINI sign on the top.
