i sent them an email complaining about this. next thing i knew they'd sorted it out. what annoys me is that the bodyshop were in the first instance billing me rather than thinking - "should mini pay for this", and even when i suggested it to them, they weren't that supportive. they were more concerned about sorting out their invoice, saying, if i didn't pay they couldn't sort out the receipt and i can't pick up the car! their priority being getting someone to pay for the glass, rather than the right person to pay for it! They said they're apparently all in different departments - despite being on the same grounds, hence not their concern and that i would need to speak to mini!

once bodyshop spoke to the mini department, everything was fine. - i think it would have been paid for even without the email - the main thing was getting the bodyshop coordinator to speak to the mini department.

if i'd said nothing, i'd be paying £200 for a new windscreen. i had also spoken to trading standards, so a plan was in place had things not gone my way.

Glad you got the right result without too much trouble. I think it would be useful if you could post the advice given to you by trading standards. This issue has cropped up a few times recently, so I'm sure someone would benefit. Cheers.

itwasn't advice - they just felt that i did have a case but that they would first need to contact mini and get their side. to contact trading standards, i googled them which takes you to their website, then you put your postcode in, then i had to submit an online form regarding my case. i had a response within 72 hours with an assigned case officer and direct line number for that officer as well as email. not a bad service!

hi guys, just my input on this one as a windscreen fitter of 15 years, firstly it was either a poorly fitted screen or carelessness that caused the break during removal, I can pretty much guarantee to get a screen out without breaking it providing there is no damage to the screen i.e. stonechips. if it was fitted and not supported properly the screen can drop down and sit on bodywork or the trim retaining clips and make removal very difficult and most likely break the glass, in either scenario an inspection of the glass should have taken place before the removal was carried out and the customer advised of any issues which may or may not arise. in this case, it seems, the customer was not advised and therefore in my eyes the cost of the breakage should fall down to the person or company doing the removal. glad you got it all sorted tho.

there is a difference in different makes of glass, the better the name i.e pilkington to name one is the better make, manufacturers glass i.e. mini branded is usually very good to but you do pay way over the odds just for the mini logo, i was told recently that mini are charging up to £300 for a windscreen! I usually charge around the £120 mark. sorry for those that this one affects but RAC glass doesn't rank very high in the quality stakes, very easily broken and sometimes a poor fit and shape.

just my input on this subject.

£300 about right, the actual windscreen costs £170 +vat from mini, so fitting will be on top of that.

£170+VAT if only you knew how much they paid for the windscreen, what I charge for a mini screen changes all the time as recently they have been in short supply, if I have to pay more then I have to charge more but if I pay less then I charge less. we still make a fair profit from our price and that includes fitting. it only takes about half an hour to fit one!
