hi guys, just my input on this one as a windscreen fitter of 15 years, firstly it was either a poorly fitted screen or carelessness that caused the break during removal, I can pretty much guarantee to get a screen out without breaking it providing there is no damage to the screen i.e. stonechips. if it was fitted and not supported properly the screen can drop down and sit on bodywork or the trim retaining clips and make removal very difficult and most likely break the glass, in either scenario an inspection of the glass should have taken place before the removal was carried out and the customer advised of any issues which may or may not arise. in this case, it seems, the customer was not advised and therefore in my eyes the cost of the breakage should fall down to the person or company doing the removal. glad you got it all sorted tho.

there is a difference in different makes of glass, the better the name i.e pilkington to name one is the better make, manufacturers glass i.e. mini branded is usually very good to but you do pay way over the odds just for the mini logo, i was told recently that mini are charging up to £300 for a windscreen! I usually charge around the £120 mark. sorry for those that this one affects but RAC glass doesn't rank very high in the quality stakes, very easily broken and sometimes a poor fit and shape.

just my input on this subject.

£300 about right, the actual windscreen costs £170 +vat from mini, so fitting will be on top of that.

£170+VAT if only you knew how much they paid for the windscreen, what I charge for a mini screen changes all the time as recently they have been in short supply, if I have to pay more then I have to charge more but if I pay less then I charge less. we still make a fair profit from our price and that includes fitting. it only takes about half an hour to fit one!
