I'm curious what "extra" charges dealers are passing on to Mini buyers, other than tags/docs/Motoring Package. For instance, are you charged $75 for programming?

Never fails to amaze me how creative the some car dealers are in padding their charges.

Anyhow, in my experience with MINI, the only additional charges to "Freight & PDI" of $1,295 are:

1) Documentation Service $125.00
2) Tire & Battery Levy 20.00 (Environmental Tax)
3) B.C. Sales Tax 7.5%
4) GST (Goods & Service Tax) 7.0%

No, they do not charge anything to program the car. Thank goodness!

Fortunately, in Canada, the law requires them to sell no higher than MSRP (for brand new units).

They shouldn't charge you for programming. If you're talking about setting the different car memory options such as locking after starting off and daytime lights, then that is free, its part of the PDI. Though, if you go back a while after delivery of the car, then your will likely be charged.

I spoke to MiniUSA today about this and they confirmed everyone's responses. They said dealers are "encouraged" not to pass costs for this onto the customers. It is part of dealer prep.
