Independant Mini Specialist Edinburgh

Hi folks. This post is for anyone looking for a Garage in the Edinburgh area in Scotland to perform servicing and repairs on the BMW Mini range.
I would highly recommend Thompson Motors in Industry lane , Leith.
They are MG/Rover specalists but Dave Thompson is now specialising in the new generation MINI as well and has been for a while now.
Absolute top mechanic who can address these niggly problems that the main dealers cant get to the bottom of on too many occasions these days. All the dealer seems to be able to do is plug in the computer and do what it tells them. I hesitate to call them mechanics, they are more technicians. My local dealer spent days and £300 on a misfire on my 03 palte 90,000 mile mini one and couldn't fix it. New lambda sensor, coil pack, leads etc. as the computer codes led them there. Dave thompson did a simple old school compression test and found the prob to be with a burnt out valve. Why did Mini dealer not do that before fitting unneeded parts? Because they are not mechanics, they are computer technicians. Dave Thompsons is extremely trustworthy, courteous and knowledgeable and runs a very clean and tidy workshop . Best of all, his labour rates are £35 per hour!!! His costs for OEM parts also seem much less than dealer prices.
