Checkered Flag was humming yesterday

That's Checkered Flag, Virginia Beach, VA, USA. I stopped by for my weekly test drive fix. My motoring assistant, Coleen, was delivering four various MINIs at mid-day. They had eight S models on the lot besides the ones being delivered and another was delivered from MINI USA and sold the moment its tires hit the lot. Lots of sales...

I'm glad to hear Colleen was having a good day. She's very nice.

I keep looking at their inventory on line, and am amazed. Other dealers have a waiting list while CF has a backlog. Part of that was the required "motoring kit" added at first, and the mandatory $349 bump for nothing. But now, I think they are selling the MC for close to MSRP.

We got our mini form CF also. Colleen was our saleperson. She was great to work with as are all the salespeople at Checkered Flag. When I got my mini in October 02 they tacked on $1700.00. I hear they have since stopped that practice. Maybe that is why they are one of the few dealers with cars on the lot.

Yup, they are now at list for both MC and MCS, with only a $349 registration and paperwork fee. For that, you drive the car off the lot completely registered and with metal license plates.

I've also found out that for that $349 fee, you'll get the Virginia state inspection for free as long as you own the car. They sent me a smartcard in the mail with a list of all the benes. I keep the card in the glovebox -- I wonder if I could put it in my card reader and get anything off of it

I'll keep the comments about their service department to myself for now -- I'm trying to work out a couple of things with them and I'm giving them a chance and the benefit of the doubt (for now).

I'll be happier with the service dept when it is actually close to the MINI dealer. I really don't like going to the overcrowded BMW lot where it is currently.

And BTW:

Thanks Richard and Checkered Flag!

They provided some very nice prizes for the upcoming Deja Vu run.

Don't need em here! Hampton Roads area may get as much as an inch if we're very lucky.

Why they wouldn't let me get Fogs and Driving lights is beyond me. I even tried to get just those to things and the could take me for the rest but no go, bummer.

I agree on the sales staff though. Nice folks.

Now the service dept........................

We did get to pick four items. We picked the CD changer, floor mats, license frame and the Intertrack System. We later had them take the Intertrack off because it runs the battery dead after the car sits for three days (not that it would ever sit for three days). The dealer knew of the problem when they put it on but said nothing to us until we asked about it. They agreed to replace it with Lo Jack. Not hardly worth $1700.00 but at the time you had to pay it.
