KenL,

Have you used either of these two? I've dealt with both - with varying degrees of success... and I'll second that "Hi!" to Alan, as I too know he checks these boards when he should be working!

I haven't dealt with them as I bought my car in Edinburgh. I'm interested to find out what the other Scottish dealers are like as I know from experience it pays (often hundreds of pounds difference) to shop around.

I bought my car from Eastern MINI in Edinburgh and have been happy with them both the sales and the service dept.

Couldn't agree more.

In February last year HB were more competitive the HF when I p/x'd for my first MINI (PS/B MC) but when I decided to trade up to an CR/W MCS in November it was the other way around. HF came back with a deal £1,000 better the HB. Ironically I never chose either, as DP MINI in Hamilton topped them both and I ended up with a deal £1,500 better than my worst offer (from HB) in the end.

Doesn't make them a bad dealer, just one who didn't want my business in that occassion. I'd use them again, sure, but only if it made sense financially.

People think that there isn't much competition for business with MINI's because of the customer interest, waiting lists etc, but I wouldn't agree. I even spoke to a dealer in the Borders who really tried to do me a good deal, better than my local people - so it definitely is worth the effort to shop around.

Very interesting how the offers from dealers varied so much even when trading in a MINI.

When planning on getting a replacement I guess it's worthwhile taking a couple of days to talk to ALL dealers.

Would any of them talk numbers over the phone?

Once I had at least one firm offer, most of them would talk over the phone. If you are upfront and honest, tell them that your serious about making a purchase - they'll talk to you.

At the end of the day, they want to sell you a car - it's their job and they're (sort of) professional about it. I just think we as buyers should be the same. I know it's not meant to be like that, you're supposed to go into the showroom, be swept off your feet by all that shiny metal and over-friendly patter - but at the end of the day, it's all about the money. Isn't it?

It's no different in Germany. When it came to trading in the Cooper and getting an S there was over 3000 euros difference between my two nearest dealers.

Needless to say I went with the one with the fantastic service (based on Cooper experience) and also the lower price.

Mini: Drive and feel alive.
