Bought my 2010 JCW from Sytner Coventry. The sales process was quick and pain free, they were happy to take my money. However, two weeks later the car is having several issues fixed, albeit under warranty. I feel that these things should have been spotted before handing the car over and resolved.

Also car dealers really need to learn how to clean cars mine still had McDonald's receipts in it from last year! and was generally dirty.

So overall not that impressed with the car or the dealer. Hopefully my opinion of the car improves, wouldn't want to be stuck with it for the next few years if it doesn't.

Cheers

Maybe you should not have taken delivery of the car if some things were obviously not right e.g. its was dirty.

When I bought my other car last year (Mercedes) I was led through a handover process which required me to inspect the car to ensure I was happy with every aspect of it; as well as full instruction on how to pair my phone with the bluetooth etc and where all the important bits were under the bonnet & in the boot.

If you bought your MINI under the used 'cherished' scheme I would expect much the same treatment from any BMW MINI dealer.

At the very least you should be getting a full valet from them before they return it.

And yes, they should have fixed anything that needed doing 'under warranty' before they delivered it.

I'd make a fuss about your treatment and see if you can pin them down for a free service whenever it comes due.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It was a Mini cherished car and was subjected to a valet although not a very good one. I intend to make a fuss, I do really like the car I just wouldn't get another one from that dealer. They have given me no reason to trust them.

We have stopped going to Sytner Coventry, it was a case of 3 strikes and out.

Each of the last 3 times it's been in for work, they've fudged up something or another.

1. Never let them clean it, their sponges and leathers are filthy and will just scratch your car. Each of the last 3 times I have asked them for NO WASH, and left a sign in the car, and each time, guess what, they [del]cleaned it[/del] pushed some dirt around

2. Our car is an auto as SWMBO can only drive autos. Last time we booked a courtesy car, had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment when they had an Auto free - turn up at the garage for service, courtesy car is a fudging manual

3. They changed the brake fluid 5 weeks ago - the service indicator has just come on for a brake fluid change.

4. Last MOT was done one day too early, despite our instructions, meaning we did not get the 13 months we wanted by booking in early.

4. They usually forget to stamp the book

On the plus side, they did help us with an out-of-warranty claim for a busted thermostat valve.

Will be trying either Northampton or Warwick next time for service

Hi snrsarg, glad I'm not the only one.
I made myself very clear and told them not to clean. However, after now spending half a day cleaning the car myself it appears I have some new scratches and a small dent in the passenger door along with some tool marks on the engine / airbox cover. Not happy at all.

I need to find a specialist bmw / mini garage that I can go to

Had to go back to the dealer today with more issues, weren't able to fix so its booked in for Monday. Only positive thing I will say about the dealer is the service guy Chris. Who seems to be the only one who knows what he is talking about.

Hi im sure it will be sorted in time.... But I had the same issue with Ridgeway in Salisbury, the salesman did a great job and promised the earth but when it was delivered I had several issues which has just taken the edge off the whole experience, there were quite a few scratches and marks on the car that I had not noticed before also a parcel shelf missing, vanity sun shade broken, aircon had a wiring fault and there was knocking from the suspension, and it smelt very musty and was not clean, the sales guy said he would send a touch up stick out to me but it never arrived no surprise there then.
Most of these have been sorted by Ridgeway in Hook who have been very good, I thought the 2nd hand cars they sold were the best of the bunch clearly not....

Hi Hopefully the car is now fixed. I don't think that having to go back to get things fixed has been my main concern, I've just been really disappointed by the lack of love I've felt from the dealer after handing over a large amount of cash and the lack of attention to detail. Poor customer service. I wouldn't buy a car from this dealer again.

If youre really fussy about your cars wouldnt it be better to buy brand new instead of buying something someone else has chucked out?

I always see buying secondhand as why should I buy something someone else doesnt want, if it wasnt good enough for them then why should I be expected to buy it kind of thing.

True and I have bought brand new in the past and still received **** service but more often than not the car didn't have faults. Way I see it the car shouldn't be sold with 'issues' be it new or not. And customer service shouldn't be better or worse if I am buying used or new. Oh and I didn't have £20k + to buy a new JCW ;) and if in the future I did I wouldn't use this dealer.

Cheers

Mini dealer in Bristol.

Whilst a lot of dealer feedback isn't always complimentary, I would like to say how well I've been treated by Dick Lovett in Bristol.
I don't have any experience of their sales staff but their spares, service reception and workshop staff are outstanding with their courteous, helpful and efficient help.
In particular the workshop manager who went out of his way to solve a rattle and when he knew I was mechanically-inclined and able, invited me in to see a Mini cylinder head which had burnt a valve. We also discussed the 'coking-up' problem and he told me about the walnut cleaning method.
Using Shell premium petrol helps to minimise this phenomenon. The manager also told me he'd been with Mini since 2001 so has a wealth of experience.
