Motorwerks MINI in MINIapolis

Hello there,

This is my first post on MINI2. I'm looking for anyone else that is either on the list at Motorwerks MINI in Minnesota or has purchased from Motorwerks BMW. I would like to know if you think they are being straight with me when they tell me they are going to sell for MSRP.
I'm about 450 on the list, but I have put money down on both a Cooper and an S. I will decide after I test drive both of them as to which one I really want.

I'm also wondering about your thoughts on how they ran their list. They are continuing to take deposits until April 1st and then will redo the list according to who has their money down. I talked to a couple of other dealerships that both said that they should have asked for the money upfront and assigned you a permanent number right then. I guess I am in limbo until April.

I also wanted to say that everyone at Motorwerks has been really friendly and helpful. They always answer my questions and they have sent out a bunch of informative emails.

Welcome to MINI2! I don't have any thing to add about Motorwerks, but I do have a question for you: Since you are 450(!) on the list, have you considered looking outside of MN for a dealer with a smaller list? Perhaps in the Chicagoland area? I've heard good things about Patrick MINI, but there are other MINI dealers also in Chicago. It may be worth your while to look around if you want to get a MINI sooner than your current 450th place will allow.

I should mention that some dealers (like the MINI dealer in Denver) have gotten "territorial" and won't sell to out of state customers, but these dealers are in the minority.

I've emailed you already, but wanted to post here in case others are from MN and are interested. I actually choose to goto Patrick MINI in chicago after I talked to Motorwerks first and they weren't taking deposits. I wanted money down and a gauranteed spot the day i decided to put money down. I then called Patrick MINI and was impressed from the get go. Robert Davis has been wonderful and truly a buyers seller. He cares about the customers, wants to make sure they are happy, and make sure they get a car they want. I'll email him with a question and he will personally call me to answer my questions. Patrick is fair, no over msrp, go in order of deposits, no forced options or accessories. In end a perfect environment.

Though do not take this post as saying Motorwerks isn't good. They will be doing my service for me as chicago is 4 times further away from me then Motorwerks. I have talked to them a few times and they have always been very helpful and curtious.

ps - stay in touch...we got 3 people I now know in MN that are getting a MINI. Need to find out the rest and get some local cruises and a Club MINI2 chapter here for MINI Owners.

Cheers

Thanks

Casey and Bruce,
Thanks for the replies. I called the MINI dealership in Milwaukee earlier in the week and they said I would be about 250 on their Cooper S list.
I think I will give Patrick MINI a call. It is so hard not knowing what number I really am. I don't mind waiting a year or so because I have two vehicles to sell and I can be saving up lots of money. However, two years seems like it would be a very long time to wait.
It sounds like a lot of people are opting for the Cooper once they test drive it. I don't know if I should go that route or just stay put.

i got mine from motorwerks today!

i am/was #499 in minneapolis and hadn't put down my deposit. i called around to other dealerships and sent a $500 deposit to the one in st. louis which said i was roughly #50. if i were you, i'd get on their list and give yourself a nice drive home

the most amazing part of this whole thing? there was an email sent out to the minneapolis list last tuesday. it said there were 12 MINI's that just arrived, and whoever got there first, got to pick. they sold in 3 hours.

i was second. i drove mine home today (friday). i don't know if that's fair or not, but if you see a silver mini in minneapolis with a grinning lady who looks slightly stunned... that's me. they told me i am the 8th mini delivered in minnesota.

motorwerks has been an awesome dealer, btw. only once did one of the sales people start to chafe under the pressure. the salespeople are excellent, the dealership itself where i picked up was extremely accomodating (even though i was only buying the lowly mini in the midst of all the beemers) and it was a great experience all the way around.

can't wait until morning when i can drive somewhere... anywhere... for anything!

got curves?

my quest for the weekend is to find good curvy roads. i'm thinking stillwater, but maybe the new MNMINI club can band together to start a list

feel free to drive up and take it for a spin... i love watching it from the outside ALMOST as much as from the driver's seat.

I also got in on the initial buy. In my case I just happened to walk into the dealership just after they sent out the email. Lucky or what ;-) I was on the list, but I think they had my old email address so I never would have got the email. Anyway I will be picking up my BRG Cooper on tuesday.
One of the best MINI roads is County O in Wisconsin. It runs from 35 (I think) just north of Peppin. Actually there are a whole lot of sports car roads in that area. Great scenery too.

Cheers,
Simon

Smile I got one

Well I picked up my Cooper this evening. I was really worried about having to drive home in a blizzard, (actually worried about all the OTHER drivers). Fortunately the weather cleared up before I got to the dealer's. Anyway Alan did the delivery for me. He went through all the features and was helpfull with any questions I had. Now I just have to worry about messing my (expensive) floor mats :-) Is anyone organising a Twin Cities area MINI club. Would the classic Mini people have us?

Cheers,
Simon

Simon,
Just curious - did Motorwerks require you to purchase the floormats? Did they require you to buy any extras that you really didn't want?

Have fun with your MINI. I'm sure I took a look at your car, I went to Motorwerks BMW and went all through their lot looking over every MINI they had there. I went specifically to see the Liquid Yellow because they didn't have any in that color on opening day.

Happy Motoring!!!

simon - I'll be forming a ClubMINI2 chapter in Minnesota(maybe including WI or other surrounding states. Please stay in touch with me at Casey@mini2.com and please give out my email address to others you know that would be interested in a Club. It would include mostly driving stuff - trips up the North Shore, Twisty bits throughout Wisconsin, etc. Also would try to get something going with the local BMW club(i know several people involved there) and get some track time at BIR.

Stay in touch

PS - i don't think the Mini-Sota MINIs club would be really interested. Very nice people, but they are classic buffs and don't want much to do with the new MINI, not that they hate it, but just isn't their passion.

MINIwannahave, the mats were 'required'. I didn't make a fuss about them, so I can't say how firm they would be about requiring them.

Casey, my email is simonb@attbi.com. I am vice pres. of the Minnesota MG Group and participate in the intermarque meetings, (local British car clubs). The Mini-Sota MINIs are also represented there.

Sari, I didn't find out what # I was, but I think I must be one of the original 12. Were you the person who works for Target? Luckily I didn't have to drive in the snow, just some very rough ice in the parking lot downtown where I work.

hey, simon

i was there with two friends and was the first in line after the guy ordering on the phone. i have long, messy, red hair

btw, i also have a '79 spitfire, so if i don't sell her, maybe i'll see you at a british car get-together.

today, the driving was great, except for any unplowed areas that the low-hanging chassis can't handle. also, the window wasn't opening and the door didn't close quite properly in the cold temperature. and the gear shift is really cold! i wonder if anyone else but minnesota drivers will notice that!

have you gotten used to the attention yet? it's starting to get a little weird...

other than that, i'm still grinning from ear to ear!

sari

p.s. do you think this is the best place for us to continue the discussion, or should we find a new home for our little MN mini thread?

Looking for other Minnesota MINI buyers

Thanks Sdmidget for the info about this thread...

I see the last post on this went out April 3. There must be some forum members who like me are waiting for their MINI at Motorwerks...

Where are you? It's May 14th- who are the 100 others on the list ahead of me?

Talking On the list

Sir Mini,

I'm #132 on the Cooper S list at Motorwerks. I took a test drive a couple of weeks ago. Great car! I can't wait to have it in my garage. Which won't be until next spring the way things are going.
However, this is not that bad of a situation for me because we just found out a couple of weeks ago that my wife is pregnant! We'll have some additional expenses, so waiting 'til next spring just gives me more time to save up a huge downpayment.

Are you on the Cooper or the S list? What color and options are you looking to get?
