The colors of the old factory Monte Carlo Rally cars. Red, white top, Minilites. They say Minis won 3 years, but they really won 4 years. One year the French officials disqualified the winning Mini for having nonstandard headlight cans. Couldn't stand to see the little boxes beat the factory 911s.
All the new colors look great, so it is a big choice. My '66 Cooper S was black, but it showed every speck of dust. Both the silvers look classy too. Hell, I don't know. Maybe have to buy 5 of them.

I know all that. (but actually it was the Citroens the French let win in '66 ) I was just wondering how far you'd take the 'Monte' aspect. Number "177" on the side? BMC rosette on the front wings? Registration "LBL 6D" painted on the bonnet? etc.

Hey, a gouge is a gouge I'm calling Mini of Murray this morning and take the plunge. I want only leather, air, computer and allweathers on an S in Monte paint, so I'll just wait 'till I get what I want and can afford.

A gouge may be a gouge, but $289 is a pretty reasonable one considering what others are doing and certainly worth it compared to the cost and incovenience of going off to Utah. And keep in mind East Bay is letting us custon order so we're getting exactly want we want. Now Vegas would be tempting, but I hear they've got a steep markup, not to mention the other losses of funds that might occur on such a trip.

Nah. Just paint the black bits red and get some Minilite type wheels. Don Racine did such a nice job on his Monte repro I can just go look at his. I'm just looking forward to having an evolved Mini which has a heater that actually works and being able to hear the radio. Haven't bought an actual brand new car since 1978 and am resigned to waiting for the one I want.

If anyone is interested MINI of Concord just announced that they are taking a limited number of custom spec orders for both Coopers and Cooper S's. I assume they'll have the same markup as before, but hey if you can't wait...
