Offline | kars, by any chance were they trying to squeeze your car into an end of Sept. delivery? Did the paperwork say Sept? I picked my car up end of May and it was obvious they were trying to hit month end goals. EB/W May '03 MCS, v.36 stumble buster software (previously v. 33.2) EX-STUMBLER - Still YO-Yo-ing |

Offline | I took delivery of my car today, and I got the key chain, mints in the coin holder, and a bottle of water. I also took a can of diet coke. You guys need to go back to your MA and demand your mint :-) |

Offline | Hi Kars, coin-holder => ash tray. Since I don't smoke and won't ever allow anyone to smoke in my car, it won't ever be an ash tray. At my request, my MA did not explain anything to me. Instead I spent the time checking tire pressures and checking fluids under the hood. I have taken delivery of a car from Herb with tires at 48psi (they basically didn't prep it) so its my habit now to do some simple checks first. That's also when I found out that my car wasn't programmed the way I wanted, and spent half an hour with the tech guys trying to figure out what happened. (new software, feature disabled..... more detail posted on MCO if you want to read it) I've already read the manual a couple of times, and my day was already too long and too tiring (Left home at 9 in the morning, finally got my car back home at 4:30 in the afternoon.) so I preferred not wasting time. |

Offline | Mini Peabody and trade-ins I had the same question -- I should be picking up my MCS around Xmas time and am trading in a mint 2000 BMW 323. The Kelly Blue Book wholesale lists it at $18,600, but when I asked them, they told me (honestly at least) that they would typically give about $1500 below Blue Book. Very odd, considering that the wholesale price supposedly reflects what the area conditions and dealer price recovery! So, my questions are: 1. How early can I get MiniPeabody to appraise and give me an offer on my car? The earlier the better to give me the option of private sale. They mentioned "about a month" before delivery offhand, but would like to hear from other people's experiences. 2. How close to Blue Book have others gotten for BMWs or relatively higher value cars? If anything, I thought that their affiliation with their sister BMW dealership down the street would give me better value! 3. Would it even make sense to try to approach other dealerships, or is there even anyone who would be interested if I'm not buying a car as a trade-in? 4. Any suggestions on selling a higher value car in the Boston area? Appreciate any and all thoughts, thanks! |

Offline | Hi Ibcheng, The dealership keeps a few used cars around if you decide you can't wait for a new MINI or if the MINI turns out to be too small after all. But as I found out, they don't like to take in used cars and they don't need to - new cars are selling themselves. You'd be better off selling elsewhere. |

Offline | LW, Wish I had known that. My name is legendary out there in Ohio with the gang at Customer Service. Ever since I was speaking with them almost daily re my purchase problems with HC/Boston, they have been terrific with me. I believe just a word from me could have achieved, for you, not only a coffee cup but a trip to Columbia to meet Juan Valdez or some of his buddies in the bush. PW/B = great combo!!!! CVT this time? |

| Back... | Thanks, took me over 90 minutes to figure out that color combo. (Poor Hrach having to suffer, while I was trying to choose between Liquid Yellow or Pepper White.) This time I am trading in the CVT, for a 6 Speed. Even with the bum leg I can work the 6 Speed with no issues. I am also lucky I got in this months order, so only about a 10 week wait. Offline | Mini Peabody experience and trading in your used car Just picked up my new MCS and turns out I'll end up answering my own questions about how Mini of Peabody does as far as getting you good value for your trade-in. I brought in a 2000 BMW 323 with a wholesale value of $18,400. The used car dept head there (John) took a look, test drive, and didn't dispute that it was in good condition, but swore that no one would be able to come even close to that price. Several days later, I got his quote of $13,500. He was very nice -- almost apologetic. I did not shop it around to other dealers, but posted it with some photos on Cars.com, where I found that my listing price of $17,900 was in the bottom 10% of asking prices. I sold it 5 days after listing for $17,500 and got 3 more calls before I pulled the ad. So, I'd say that a $45 ad was well worth the $4000 (~30%) premium I got over trade-in. Sellers beware... The good news is that my Mini Purchasing experience with Peabody has been terrific. No pressure, good response time, and Joel (my rep) did a quick change in my order 2 weeks after it was placed. I can only hope that the service guys are equally customer-oriented. Now, how do I find out about New England rallies??? |

Offline | I think your experience shows clearly that MOP's focus is not on trade-ins or used cars. Nothing wrong with that and, in fact, you did pretty well with your private sale. The service guys are uniformly terrific, competent, and caring. Now, I would suggest just scrolling down the NE threads, joining MAMA (you'll see how as you scroll), and come on! Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear. |
