| MINI2 Newbie | Out of State buyers at Peabody I ordered my car from Peabody this week. I live in Vermont. Any other out of state folks buy from Peabody? What's involved with registering the car, taxes, etc? I know Keeler takes care of alot of the leg work. Does Peabody? | MINI2 Newbie | Did you have to pay MA taxes *and* your own state taxes...and then apply for a refund for the MA taxes? Or is there a way to avoid having to pay MA taxes? | Back... | Having bought cars out of state before, you buy the car in Mass. Then you will pay Sales tax for your state on top of the other taxes you must cough up to get registration squared away. You will however need get a plate from Vermont to drive the car home as Mass does not put plates on for Temp use. I had to get a $10 piece of cardboard with Numbers from the NH DMV, to drive my car home. Winslow ![]() This space for Rent |

| Back... | Forgot to put you only pay sales tax to the state you are going to register the car in. So you buy the car in Mass with no sales tax. Then when you register it in Vermont you pay the 5% (or whatever it is) sales tax. Hope this clears you up? Winslow ![]() This space for Rent |

Offline | the peabody experience I should be getting my MINI within the next week or so and wanted to know what the actual experience is like. Are they good and straight up with the paperwork? and how long does it take to get it done? What goodies/freebies do they hand out? Also, how long did it take for them to receive the car once it wa unloaded from the ship? Thanks!!! |

Offline | My overall experience has been pretty good. I picked up my MCS the end of May and they were trying to get a lot of cars off the lot by the end of the month. I think I got lost in the shuffle a bit. When I showed up my car had no fuel and had not been inspected. They gave me vouchers, but I had to then drive to a local gas station to fuel up and get the inspection. On the plus side, they didn't want to wait for my financing paperwork to come through since it was end of month so they said they'd match or beat my finance deal since they could do it instantly there. I got a pen, an Italian Job movie pass, nothing major. So far the service department has been great. They really took the time to make sure they understood my problem the one time I came back in for a loose piece of trim and some door squeaks, and the dreaded stumble / yo-yo / bog issue. I was expecting to stop by and make an appointment, but they took me right in immediately for service. | Back... | Doing the paperwork for your Mini will be the longest wait you ever had, yes even worse than that waiting for it to be built. What is even worse is to do the paperwork and have the delivery take place in the showroom. That is how mine was done, as I was signing things and reading that, I could see my baby right behind the desk. I just wanted to grab my keys and head for the car. After the paperwork is done, they will give you a once over in the car to make sure you know where everything is. This took about an hour. Winslow ![]() This space for Rent |

Offline | Hey kars, if there is any delay, just schmooze with Hrach. And, what better way to learn your car than 10/11 Come to MAMA run out here in SW NH. Check the thread and join the fun. There are lots of us out here thinking that P'body is the best dealership we have ever done business with. I'm one and I bought my MCS not from them but from the evil one on Commonwealth Ave. Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear. |

| heh...lame | Not sure if it's common or not but I found out that MINI Peabody donated a Chili Red MCS to an organization in Concord, MA. Tickets are raffled off for $100 each and it is to raise money for a local fitness/swimming complex that people want built. I know someone who bought a couple tickets, I think they are raffling 999 of the tickets, so odds aren't really *that* bad. John, stick to the MAMA thread. Evildoer. "Just keep heading into the wind. Offline | Hi Kars, Our C of O hasn't even been printed yet. I've been told I might not even be able to take delivery of my car until Wednesday or later. I was going to take delivery this morning, so Steve told me he had it under the cover inside the showroom, ready to go. Alas, no C of O...... Oh well it is not happening........ |

Offline | delivery!! So, the much awaited delivery happened today. As it turned out, it was nothing very special. ![]() I was there at around 4:30 or so and my car was in the parking lot all washed up and ready to go. After a short wait, we were taken up to the office where I got all the paperwork sorted out- finance, registration etc. I was then handed the plates and came back down to the showroom where Brig (my MA) went over what was in the folder (owner's manual, CD boost radio manual etc). it took him all of 5 minutes to tell me this. He then attached the plates to the car and sat with me in the car to explain all the controls etc. I wish he could have taken more time to go over everything under the hood too but he had people waiting and told me i could come back another day if i wanted to. I had wanted the aero grille to be fixed but apparently fixing the bumper unit is a pain they didnt do it! So all they installed was the bonnet unit. I wasnt too happy when i heard this but it didnt look too bad in when I saw it....i might decide to do it myself later....After that, he gave me the inspection voucher and I was off on my way. I think the whole process might have taken an hour at most!! No freebies except the mini keychain. They are REALLY busy and I am thinking of going back again for him to explain everything...... Anyways, the thing is that I have the MINI now and am loving it!!! ![]() Still getting used to the gearbox, clutch etc. I have posted pics in my gallery. For all those who are close to delivery, hang in there and dont get impatient... enjoy!!! I'll be seeing you around..... laters............ |

Offline | Congrats, Kars You're stylin' now! It's a good time of year to get out there and put some miles on. I'm surprised they didn't fit the lower aero kit grille and left the original one on. Maybe it's more involved than I think. Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |
