Here is the letter sent by PEAKE to people who had placed a deposit on a MINI.

Dear Perspective Mini Customer:

After much deliberation, Peake BMW has chosen not to become a Mini dealer. The deposit check for your Mini order is attached, unless you have previously requested that we return it to you.

Harris Mini located in Baton Rouge, telephone number (225) 754-1200 is the Mini dealer in the state of Louisiana.

Harris Mini has agreed to honor all deposits made to Peake BMW in the original order of receipt. The Mini order list has been forwarded to Harris Mini. Please contact Tommy Lynch at Harris Mini for all of your Mini needs.

It is interesting to note that they hinted that they might not become a Mini dealer in January. They told people in March that they were not going to be a Mini dealer. But they waited until May to officially tell anybody. Maybe now I can find out where I was on the list. I was asking to put a deposit down in January on 2001.

It is also interesting to note that the letter was not even signed.

I am now trying to schedule my time to pick up my car at Autohaus of Clayton. It is in, but I have to drive 400 miles to get it home.

I am in no way defending Peake on this one, however they were probobly just granted permission from miniusa to do so. I was basicly told outright in Dcember by thier sales staff that they had given up on the MINI. I spoke with a sales rep from Brian Harris BMW the day after miniusa had officially granted them a dealership, that was a several weeks ago and it has just been posted on miniusa.com within the past few days. Peake was most likely told to hold off until there was on oppening date scheduled for Harris.

I understand that there were some discussions on how the list from PEAKE was going to be distributed and to whom, and who whould notify people. I was slightly frustrated that nobody seemed to be talking about it (PEAKE or MINIUSA). The big issue was how unprofessional that PEAKE has been about being a dealership. Communication has been horrible. When I requested my check back from them, it was mailed wrapped up in a plain piece of paper, no comments, no nothing. The above form letter was obviously done once, and printed (or copied) multiple times. It was not even signed.

Let me make my last comment about PEAKE.

Hip Hip Hooray for PEAKE. You are not going to be a MINI dealer.
