Question (US only) Anyone successful purchasing below MSRP?

Curious to know if anyone has been successful in obtaining their new 2002 Mini at below MSRP? More than likely, dealers will have to sell next year models below MSRP!

Considering that if you want a deliverey in less thant 12 months the cooper S is going bewteen 5 and 7 thousand over sticker in our area I dont think you will ever see it below MSRP. Mini seriously underestimated the demand for this car especially in the US. Its only going to get more expensive until the major model change approx 4 yrs down the road.

Below MSRP - free floor mats

I'm picking up my baby Cooper (not S)next week. After some heavy duty negotiations, leveraging (I had none), and some exchange of unpleasantries, I convinced and re-convinced my Sales Rep. at Mini of Fairfield in Stamford CT to give me floor mats for free. I guess, on balance, u can say that I'll pay below MSRP for my Cooper.

Well at FIRST glance it might appear that you paid under msrp. But if you add up your hourly wage in discussing the deal, travel to and back from the dealer and emotional distress yo may come out behind in the long run. Hell any good lawyer would come back with a healthy settlment in your favor with that kind of ammunition Just kidding actually, congagulations in getting blood from a stone! I wonder if i can score some floor matts for the extra 5k my S is costing? Happy motoring

Under MSRP ??

Not very likely. The very basic law of supply and demand probably won't let this happen for some time. It will happen eventually.

Mine was the demonstrator. When we left for the demo ride there were 5 minis for sale not counting thedemo. When we got back (10 minutes) there were none. I grabbed the one we were in and held on. Didn't even try to negotiate. Bought it at sticker price and darn glad to getit.

You can get a PT Cruiser for less than sticker. But then you'd be driving a PT Cruiser wouldn't you?

My husband is the best negotiator that I have ever seen. Rarely have we paid more than $100-$200 over wholesale. Even with his "rare" ZO6 Corvette, he bought it under sticker and got 0% financing which we figured was worth at another $5000. That being said, we were thrilled to find a dealer (Long Beach, California) that would sell us the MINI for MSRP in a relatively short period of time!

Free floor mat

Randy30:
Sales rep. agreed to give me free floor mats (front & back) when I placed my order in March. It was all verbal. I asked for "help" on the mats & she agreed to "take care of it."

A few days before I picked my Mini on May 22, she tried to renege on our side agreement. She stated: owners are coming down on them for giving away stuff and here's the STICKLER: she said Sales Rep. only get $ 50.00 commission on each car they sell.

I renegotiated over the phone via 2 or 3 different calls. Finally, she indicated that I'll get my free mats but "it'll come out of her own pocket."

I have no guilty feelings over this. I paid MSRP & they made a very decent profit. Plus, how do u validate and/or challenge "$ 50.00 commission and it'll come out of her own pocket?" I have no way of knowing.

Bottom line: I'm delighted with my free Mini rubber floor mats.

Well good for you sticking to your guns. I neded up cancelling my order witha local dealer because they were insisting on a 5,000 markup for absloutly nothing , not even floor matts. I will be getting one thru westchester mini in new york at msrp and shipping it to L.A. Hows things in stamford, ill be going home for a week to new london end of this month .

I got three MINI T-shirts for free and didn't pay a dime over MSRP, does that count?

I would imagine several people could be in the same position with a very good relationship with their dealer.
