Question North America Owners - How Far is Your Service Center?

The vast expanse of our continent (Canada, USA and Mexico) and the sparcity of service centers means many of us will have to drive long distances to get our MINIs serviced.

But we wanted our MINIs anyway. How long are we willing to drive for warranty service?

I split the choices into time rather than distance increments, not only to avoid miles/km conversion, but because time is what really matters anyhow.

Erazo, I hope you don't mind but added some more choices on the poll to accomodate longer travel times to the nearest service center. (three hours seemed too easy as the final choice ) My nearest dealer (when it opens in August) will be about 8 hours away.

Here's an idea for MINI USA: set up a fleet of mobile service centers. A properly outfitted semi-tractor-trailer could make its rounds throughout the hinterlands at regular intervals to provide service to those owners who don't live close enough to a fixed center to make the trip themselves. A post card and email would announce the visit date. It would pay for itself and add to the uniqueness of the MINI.

Great idea!!! I love it.

A visit of a mobile service center to town would also be a great excuse for MINI owners to gather together and swap stories, plan for club events, go on driving tours, etc.

Erazo, you've got to send your idea to Jack Pitney, head honcho at MINIUSA!

With today's announcement that there will soon be MINI dealers in Texas, ( ) I hope to change my answer in the near future from about 8 hours away to about 8 minutes away if my local BMW dealer also becomes a MINI dealer.

As they say in the UK, I am chuffed!

Reminds me of "Northern Exposure" (what a great show). Chris in the Morning seems to be a MINI type of guy.

My problem is that I really don't want to give the closest dealer my business.

105 miles, 2.5 hours for me from Raleigh to Winston-Salem.

Yes, that's only 39mph average - Interstate 40 & 85 frequently back up in Greensboro due to accidents.

Chip H.

BTW: That stretch of road is nicknamed "Death Valley".

I posted "under 1/2 hour" on the assumption that my local dealership, Brecht MINI, will open at some point. They are a little behind schedule right now.

I'm considering the purchase of a MINI, and this is a big concern of mine. The closest dealer is 2.5 hours away. Hopefully, BMW dealerships will do regular maintenance work in the future.
