Another example of customer service today.
A fortnight ago i took my car in for its 25000 service ( it actually came in at 20,000). I was informed that my front pads and discs wouldn't last until my next service, the FRONT pads had 2mm left and the discs were 20.3mm when their recommended minimum is 20mm.. It seemed a little odd that the discs would need changing at the same time as the first brake pad change but when i asked if that was unusual i was told no.I was told that the pads start off at 9mm so i figured that as the car had used 7mm in two years that i should get annother 4 or 5 months out of the pads. A couple of days later the brake pad warning light came on. I arranged for it to go in and it was going to cost £190approx. It went in today and early afternnon i get a call to ask if its okay to change the REAR pads. I said i was told that the front pads were down to 2mm but nobody mentioned anything about the rears. The lady i spoke to agreed that the records showed that there was 2mm left on the front but said it was the rears that had set the warning light off ,I asked if it was unusual for the back pads to wear out before the fronts to which I recieved a hasty 'no'.I have never had a car before that uses back pads more than fronts. I also asked why nobody had spotted the rears to which the initial response was 'I don't know' followed later in the conversation by 'the engineer is aware it wasn't picked up and will be having 'a meeting'. If that was the case then why when i asked the question initially was i not told about the 'engineer being aware of it not being picked up'.So i've had the rear pads changed for £92. Does anyone else think its odd that the rear pads wear out before the fronts?
They are making a very strong case for taking my business elsewhere.

Its the same as tyres, most of the braking is done on the front so they are usually the first to go.

Thats my thought, and we know its not just a thought it's a fact. I wonder if there is any possible way if i contact MINI themselves and not the dealer , that they could explain why my rear pads would wear out before the fronts. I did have an odd noise occasionally that sounded like something big in the boot lunging forward, i'm now wondering if it was sticking rear pads. I did ask the dealer about this noise and they said they couldn't replicate it.
Do brake discs usually wear at the same rate as pads? i didn't think that was correct either.

I didn't mention that when it went in for its service the engineer pointed out that the handbrake lever chrome tip was loose, i said i wasn't aware but when the service guy brought my car up he said he could see it. When i went to it it dropped off in my hand and it wasn't like that when i dropped the car off. That has since been replaced but my daughter tonight noticed that two of the three interior light buttons are missing, I'm not sure whether this happened when the sunroof was replaced or if they have fallen out, i definately haven't seen them in the car.

I had a puggy that did 57000 miles, in that time it had 1 full set of pads all round and a second set on the front. When the second set of pads were fitted the front discs were also replaced as they were getting low and it made sense to do it all in one go. The rears still had plenty of life left in them.....
