The Truth?

My first post since joining Mini2.com. Great website, great forum!

In reading the fourm it looks like 8 weeks is a pretty standard delivery time. I just gave Northwest Mini in Fife WA $500 along with my order for a black and green S. I was told 8 months delivery time.

As it was explained to me my $500 puts my order in a drawer with all the other S orders. Each month Northwest Mini gets their allotment from the factory and the dealer submits those orders at the front of the drawer. My order moves up until the magic day arrives when I'm at the front of the drawer and my order goes to Mini.

8 weeks or 8 months, what's the truth?

8 weeks or 8 months, what's the truth?

I ordered from NW MINI myself. I was told 12 month wait right off the bat when I ordered in June(paid my 500 bucks to get on the waiting list---goes towards downpayment later). It's been less than that. When my name actually came up on the waiting list(Oct), then Tomio faxed it in. My MINI went into production 3 weeks ago. It has just sailed off yesterday. So I would say 8 weeks is correct from order to delivery. The waiting list to order is the real pain. Once it's ordered, it's pretty smooth sailing from there.

I really believe it depends on the dealership, the demand of the area (NW MINI services Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia etc). I don't think the waiting list is as long in let's say-----Arkansas or someplace a little more rural. I was reading that there are many east coast dealerships that don't have waiting lists at all. If you don't want to wait, it's best to order out of state. It just happened to work out fine for me, because I was moving and didn't need the car until later in the year anyway. Hope that clarifies the process a bit better. I hear you can go through another dealership in the US without the wait and they'll even deliver in some cases.

Thanks!

I can't help directly (being from the UK), but I've moved this to the "Delivery, Shipping & Order Tracking" forum, where it might get more appropriate help (like the one above!).

You can also search/read through in here to find other people's experiences. Your wait does sound exceptionally long at that dealership. Would it not be better to order out of state?

Paul is right, there are many dealers where you can order right away. Options are to either have it shipped to you or fly and drive. Read some of the threads in this forum for others' stories on ordering out of state.

It all depends on the dealer's allotment, and the demand for that particular model at your dealer.

Yes, you can order out of state, but there is a downside. If you're trading in a car, you won't get the sales tax benefit if you buy out of state. (When you bring it to Washington, you'll have to pay "use tax" on the "fair value" of the vehicle - not sales tax on the difference between purchase price and trade-in).

If you're considering ordering out-of-state, but don't want the hassle of having your car shipped or having to fly out to pick it up, you might try giving Rasmussen in Portland a call. Their wait times are sometimes a bit shorter than NWMini.

We ordered from NWMINI and we've been very happy. Wait was definitely shorter than the initial estimate - I suspect it's not uncommon for those in line ahead of you to drop off the list for various reasons.

Mini of Pittsburgh did not have a wait when I ordered, I just picked when I wanted it built from their list of allotments. The problem I now have is that it was built and finished by Nov3, but it is still at the shipping yard and was bumped yesterday. Right now, it won't even set sail until 11/24 (assuming I do not get bumped again) and won't land in US until 12/9. Give it 2- weeks to get to Pittsburgh.... hopefully by Xmas. this is a surprise gift to my sick wife and it would ruin the surprise if I do not get it here in time.........

I would guess if it lands on 12-9 then it should be 5 to 10 days before it gets to the Dealer, ask them, they are probably just building in some room for error.

Mine was ordered on 10-7, built by 11-1, loaded in Southhampton on 11-8, discharged in S.C. TODAY, we should see it next week or maybe just after, because of Thanksgiving and my MA working a Car Show here in Orlando. Pretty fast actually.

Wow, I am jealous. You ordered a weel later, and will take delivery 3 weeks earlier. Congrats and enjoy.
