Well ...it will have to be Aida (Rigoletto is now scratched), because there then seems to be quite a long wait. It might get on the Hual Triton which leaves for New York on the 22nd....but I can't remember a Hual boat carrying MINIs for a long time.. if ever.

WW Schedule shows Medea only going to Baltimore. If so, there won't be nearly so many of you on it compared with ships stopping off at New jersey

Everyone is very quite at the moment!

Aida docked in Southampton at first light and started loading MINIs nearly straight away at a rate of two or three a minute. There are 600 on the dockside and I reckon she will have them all on board by early afternoon.

Lots of piccies on
"Aida Leaving on the 15th September" Thread and in my Personal Gallery

Here's one to be going on with

After studying a MAP...

I've come to the conclusion that the best way to obtain pics of any WW docking would be:

1. Taking a boat out and trying real hard to avoid all them pesky armed U.S. Federal Marshalls.

2. Asking the nice people of NEAT if I could come on in a take a few pics. (not likely).

or

3. See if the nice people over at the Military Ocean Terminal would let me in. (really not likely) Which is a shame because they have a great view as they are situated right next door facing the berth side of NEAT.

Anyone else have any ideas? Oh and NEAT is located in Jersey City, for those of you not familiar with the place well lets just say you don't just want to be caught wandering around, unless your shopping around for some crack. How come there are so many pics of the ships leaving South Hampton? Is it really that accesible?

Well you have to be careful...I was close this morning to Marchwood ...which is the UK's major Military Shipping Terminal...which just happens to be starting "a huge six week exercise to test how much equipment it can ship to the Middle East"...but "it's a training exercise that has been in planning for the last 18 months...nothing to do with current tensions with Iraq"...Yeah . But, there are also loads of ordinary life stuff around to be captured with the lense...especially with a telephoto lense.

So ..I "inadvertantly arrived" at this nice new housing estate made from a converted set of Victorian barracks to get this morning's photos of Aida. I found it by accident/hunch...and then worked at a better view. I'm beginning to think I'd make a good spy

I'm also following up the formal permission route!

From there...this is how close I got in the end

Talk to the Military...'cause the Truth is that you want to film your MINI arriving...they WILL believe you. I would...you seem so nice

Anyway, perhaps my frequent "rubbings along" with the military in some of my other hobbies has made me realise they're OK and usually very helpful.

I am truly impressed!

eBrit-
That last photo is really neat. Maybe you should plan a vacation here. Can you make it by Tuesday?

I've been nicked once before (years ago, long story, don't ask ) for trespassing and am a bit wary about reliving the experience and I think a second offense would cost me a pretty penny. (Okay it was 4 years ago)

OH Monica...you do sound wicked

I don't think I've trespassed yet. I push right to the legal limit...and always have a very genuine (and articulate) reason for the photos... MINI2 and my personal MINI Mania.
But it might be worth you asking NEAT. At worst they'll say "NO", more likely prevaricate...but just might say "YES". I'm currently talking to WW Guys (who are just great...a happy company or what!) ...but I also understand they need to refer it to BMW. Be brave, be sensible, don't break the law, but "where there is a will ...there is usually a way". The most difficult thing I find is finding out the time everything happens. If I knew what time Aida left Southampton today ..I'd film it! But ...no way I'll stand there from 5:00 to 18:00 waiting!!!!!

That would be TOO SIMILIAR to waiting for my MCS

Pleeeease!!

Monica,

Go for it! Get us a picture, please!!

I think, just talk to someone, I'm sure you won't be the first obsessed MINI fan to request permission! Worst case, they say "no." BTW, wear something low-cut!!

Okay Okay I'll take a swing by on Tuesday. I guess eBrit already covered the hit or miss thing on arrival time. Let's see the ships have to give something like 3 days notice of their arrival, all cargo has to be documented in advance and the armed U.S. marshalls get on baord and inspect cargo, crews personal belongings etc. Oh yeah then little old me comes by with a camera. Well at the very least I should come home with a date, the military+the docks. I'll wear something short, you know to get the pictures

Well ...if you want the honest truth....

Every day is different!

Yesterday...I really wanted to get a shot of Aida sailing in....But I was half an hour too late...and anyway it was probably too dark.

So I had no intention of repeating the 30 mile trip today.

UNTIL...at 3:00am a friend of my son (My son is 21...and lives at home...and also posts on MINI2) phoned to ask if he was in!!!!

After 1 hour of laying awake thinking about it (he wasn't)... I went on the Internet (MINI2...check me out)

After two hours...I thought ..."What the heck...I missed Aida come in...perhaps i'll get her going out!"

After three hours...I was there

After four hours...I'd seen the P&O Victoria dock, the Braemer dock and taken photos of a deserted and devoid of MINIs WW Terminal...but no Aida

SO...I looked at the map, drove a few miles...and found another view...and magically "Aida" loading Honda's!

I explored a bit more ....some lovely photos of nice homes overlooking best bit of Southampton Water ...from about £350,000 to just over a £ Million - each with their own yatch berth and the MINI Terminal is in the background (so is the Ocean Liner Terminal)!!!!

and was home again by 9:30am

Then family outing in the "on loan" MINI Cooper,... fast drive, check Cooper S was NOT in dealers yet, and back home at 12:00

Sunday Lunch....whole roast duck with pancakes.. Hoisin sauce, etc,

Read & post on MINI2

Gardening, read Sunday Times, ...etc...etc

Prawn tempura & a bottle of Voignier, followed by Calvados for supper

Watched great tele programme on Henry II, Thomas a Becket, Richard the Lion Heart, and slimy King John...

and...finally

..reply now, before crashing out.

A reasonable day ?????

Recent holiday was last two weeks in August
...spent in France... near Mont St Michel ..in an old water mill. But (sad) I confess - I took one (only one, honest) photo of a pure silver and black MINI Cooper at Port St Louis, Dinan ...just like the one we've got on loan

eBrit

Soon...soon....soon....soon...maybe tomorrow....soon...soon...a MCS....Soon...SOON...
