ok, the wait is finally over for me!!! well almost over, i am picking up my jet black mcs tomorrow afternoon after 4 months of wait. thanks ebrit for those wonderful shots at the port and those who share their insights and excitement about their coopers here.

besides the common sense check around the car, is there anything particular that i should be aware of while picking it up or driving it back home?

thanks in advance, guys!

Thanks for the warning about the tar. I'll keep an eye out.

Yeah - I came home from the drive back from the dealers and immediatly wanted to go back out (and did!). And today - well, if you don't know what a celebrity feels like, you certainly will soon!

Had to battle your way through the paparazzi to get to your car in the drive this morning?

The first drive around town ought to be interesting. I'll be going from Joe Anonymous to "That Guy".

Congrats on picking up your car!

I plan to check the tire pressure, take a short test drive (just to make sure that it really does drive!), sign the papers, and then visit the service counter. I'll pick up a couple of oil filters, a quart of official MINI oil, some coolant, and see if they have one of the plush MINI toys for my niece.

well, they didn't have any plush toys, but they did have one of these that they sold me:

It fit amazingly well in the garage. In fact, I seem to have alot of extra room now -- an extra foot or so on the sides, and nearly 3 feet at the ends.

The checkerboard roof came out really well (I was concerned about how it would look), and sets off the black trim & black wheel arches nicely on the EB/W. Matt at Flow MINI said I was the first person with that combination they had seen, and had received several compliments on it when it was in their showroom. Flattery will get you everywhere, Matt

The chequered roof with EB was a combination that never occured to me. It looks absolutely stunning. Congrats and enjoy.
"Be noticed" I'll bet your the "talk of the town".

Yes, I took the roof rack off first thing. It really added to the drag on the car - only got 29mpg on the trip back, and collected a lot of bugs. Flow is ordering a set of the black plugs (the front mounts fell on black squares) for me.

Got my first "What kind of car is that?" on the way back, in Siler City. Fun!

Spent a couple of hours last night, just sitting in it, reading the manual.

Pictures - Finally!

Well, it finally stopped raining and I had a chance to wash the poor thing so here are, as promised, the pictures of new pride and joy:

Wow!! Looks great!

And you've already got your custom plate on it!
Did you have it from before? Or did you just plan ahead and give the DMV the VIN number?

I have to admit I planned ahead and had been driving around with "Mini Me" on a Honda Civic. Didn't make much sense then and god only knows what people thought! But know it I think it looks the proverbial dog's attachments!

Still no car!!!!

Great pics guys!

I went away on business giving them an extra week to ship it up from VPC. Still not on the way. Matt tells me that it's sitting with one other car waiting for a full trucks worth before they release it. I'm bumming. At least it doesn't appear to have been damaged. He said they send an alert to the dealer when a repair is needed at VPC.

Anyway, I bug them every day. For now I wait.

Chip, how did Dan do with the rack install? Drag eh, how about noise?

He did a great job - everything lines up perfectly!

The drag is only noticeable via the MPG computer (since I wasn't doing any top-speed tests). Mostly I noticed a slight whistle from it -- But I didn't have the rubber strips on there to plug up the channel the bike mount slides in (it has to be cut to fit, once you've decided where to place the bike mount). So I think the whistle will mostly go away once I do that (to be replaced with wind noises from the bike itself, but that's understandable).

Got my first "thumbs-up" in traffic yesterday. That's never happened to me in any other car I've owned.

This car is so much fun!
