Average delivery time....???

Hi Everyone,

I'm not a new Mini owner just yet but I hope to be soon. My fiance and I are in the process of moving and with the holidays opon us, it's just a little hectic. I was just wondering what the average delivery time is for a new Mini once it's ordered. I stopped by my local Mini dealership this past weekend and took an MCS out for a test drive. I'm not sure if he was serious or not be he tried to tell me the wait was close to a year. I find this not only very depressing but also very disturbing. Was he just exaggerating or is this true....? The dealership is in Northern California, East Bay BMW/Mini. Any info regarding delivery time would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Miguel

Welcome to MINI2

There's a billion (well ok, maybe only a hundred) threads on this topic. Do a search for delivery times. Basically, if you're in CA, (Northern or Southern) or Texas there's horrificly long waits. Anywhere else in the country the wait varies, depending on model and location from a few months to cars sitting on the lot that you could get prespec'd. Ordering your car, and having it delivered to your dealer (if you want to go that route) without a waiting list takes 2-3 months, since you're on the west coast, it just takes longer because the boat has to go farther. S' are more popular then Coopers, and thus have longer waits for ordering.

Check the dealer threads for dealers that don't have waiting lists anymore, as well as the For Sale thread. Many Californians have gotten cars from Utah, and east coast and midwest dealers (MINIJewel Usually has cars at Milkwaukee) with happily ship your car, or you can drive it back and break it in.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

Well, I can tell you that it takes a while, even after the ship docks (in my case). I'm waiting since the Fidelio docked on November 16, and still have no idea.

My dealer here in Florida, is quoting a one year wait for an 'S' and three months for a Cooper. This is a dealer with an excellent reputation who does NOT charge over MSRP. I am also aware of other local dealers with pre-specs on the lot who charge $2000 over MSRP for dealer added accessories, required of the buyer.

But, I guess this is the price we pay to join an exclusive club of what appears to be a group of very proud MINI owners.

Miguel,

I'm getting my Cooper from East Bay Mini in about a week. It has taken 6 months from being placed on the waiting list
to receiving the car.

When I signed up for the waiting list, in June, they said it would take 6-8 months to get the car. In June the wait for an S was 18 months.

East Bay Mini charges MSRP that's why their waiting list is longer. The wait time they quote is accurate.

If you can't wait for an S check out Mtn. View Mini or Niello in Sacramento, but be prepared to pay $3,000.00-$4,000.00 over MSRP plus any dealer added options.

The short answer is that there's no short answer. There are people on this site who will be getting February (and often much later) delivery, but then there are those who manage much better times (Yours Truly, for example).

If you aren't too picky with options, you can always tell your dealer to try and find something from inventory. This is essentially what I did. Give your salesthingy a list of preferred colours, "must have" options, and "must avoid" options, then let them earn their commission. This is what I did, and my salesman performed brilliantly. For an entire afternoon, he would phone me every hour and give me a couple of more finds that to greater or lesser extents fit my criteria. After calling about four or five times, we'd built up enough of a "virtual inventory", that I could comfortably pick what I wanted.

Granted, it was a third colour choice (out of the six or seven I gave him), and it had the MFSW and 17" rims (neither of which were on my list of must-have options), but it was still a package that has brought me no end of joy.

As you've seen, there is a wide range. I'm in Northern California and my wait keeps getting longer as processing gets longer.
I put down $1000 for a MC with East Bay MINI in mid May.
Was allowed to order in Mid Sept.
Car was started early, finished on est. time (10/25).
Booked on Trinidad, waitlisted on Trin. Got to dock day Trinidad sailed. Booked on Century Highway. Sailed 11/07.
Arrived Port Huneme 12/01.
Processed at VDC 12/10.
Initial OL delivery date 12/15.
Next OL delivery date 12/19
Talked to dealer today. His computer shows it gets to him 12/30.

Good Luck!
