How believable are the build slots promised by dealers?

Just wondered what peoples experiences are of the accuracy / truthfulness of the build slots promised by dealers in order to guarantee the sale.

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with about 10 Mini dealerships in a 15 mile radius of my house. I've had a handful of quotes now for my Cooper and their build slots vary from mid June to late September.

How contractual can you make the build slots at order time? i.e. can you penalise your dealer for late delivery? Do dealers say they have slots when they blatantly don't just to get the sale? (after all it seems like nobody will negotiate on price, so what else does the salesman have to differentiate themselves with?)

cheers... holty.

Here in the US, I think most people have experienced their cars being delivered before the estimated date. Of course, there's probably the one person who got their car late reading this thread at this very moment, their mouse hovering over the "Submit Reply" button...

But I think on the whole, the dealers in the States have under-promised, which is better than "Oh, you'll have it tomorrow!" and it not come in.

I personally had no problems with the car being delivered on time, they quoted I think 6 weeks and I actually got the car 2 days early, I got mine from Cooper Reading and the service was A1 !!!!
