Have a big road trip planned down to LA from Vancouver with the car that was already delayed (have taken time off, etc). Have just learned that the roof's have been recalled. Got to sit in the car and look at the roof - which appears fine - but cannot take the car. Now it's a waiting game to see when the roof arrives. If it doesn't arrive in time, I have a bunch of hotels booked I can't use. Unfortunately the dealer isn't giving me very much information as to where the roof's are which is making it nearly impossible to plan. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm in the same boat. New launch date is April 15, 2016. From what I've heard, there's a problem with rear window - it may fall out. My F57 is currently sitting at the GA port, and the dealer said that's where it will be fixed. Good to know it won't have to go back to the UK.
With this delay at the last minute (3 days before I was supposed to pick it up at the dealership), my dealership has been super generous in helping me out since I had sold my current car. I was able to negotiate a $500 price reduction off the price of the car for the inconvenience, which covers a rental car. Maybe you can swing a similar deal. Good luck. Let's hope nothing else is wrong to delay it further.
Update from my dealer today.... my F57 is fixed, and should be at the dealer before April 15. I can pick it up when it arrives without having to wait until the official April 15 launch date. You might want to check with your dealer to see if there's an update on your car.
Hmmm? What do you mean by a launch date of April 15th? A Southern California Mini dealer (Escondido, CA) has had four 2016 Mini S convertibles in stock for at least two weeks. Well ...... at least they are showing them on their web site as in stock.
Sorry but this forum won't let me add the link to their web site yet but you should be able to find their dealer site under, Mini of Escondido.
You are correct! And I had a major problem with that.
Corporate released a PDF of the relaunch around March 8; they found a problem and would be holding all convertible to be fixed. The new launch date was April 15, with customer-sold orders as top priority. They didn't quite honor that because I also saw that dealers were selling the new convertibles before April 15... before I got my "customer-ordered" car. I called a few dealers to verify, and they quickly asked me to come out and test drive their convertibles. On April 14, I had my dealer call the port for an update on my car. He said that they ran out of new tops for the cars, and were waiting for a new shipment from England (should have arrived middle of last week).
On April 14, I wrote to seven MINI Corporate executives to let them know how I felt about them not honoring their promise that customer-sold orders were first priority. It wasn't fair that I could have bought a convertible off of the lot before my car arrived. I received a call from one executive, who apologized for the situation. My car quickly got on a truck to the dealership after that, coincidentally. I picked up my car on April 21 (I ordered it back in mid January).

Thanks, that explanation makes sense. I have a 2017 JCW convertible in transit as I write this (the new JCW convertibles are called 2017 models). It was ordered on 3-28-2016 and, surprise, only took two weeks to be built (I assume it got the corrected top when it was built). The Mini Owners Web site now shows that it is in transit so I expect that it should arrive in California in another two weeks or so.........I hope.
