Has anyone been able to successfully track their ship at sea using the ocean weather site and the ships call sign?

I have been trying to track my ship (Jingu Maru) using its call sign (from US Coast Guard Site) JPPT, and have not been able to find the ship on any of the maps.

Does it usually work and has anyone actually been successful at tracking the location of their ship at sea? I used all of the information from the FAQ.

I haven't had any luck. I've been trying to track the TOSCA (call: S6AN) for a while, but haven't seen it at all.....

Seems to be pretty hit and miss, with more miss than hit.

Never could locate the Carmen.

The Jingu Maru (callsign JPPT) is appearing regularly on the ocean weather site -- it is making steady progress across.

wow, guys...tracking the SHIPS themselves? i can't be overly critical, because it's cool that you are that pumped about the car....but don't you like just a LITTLE bit of mystery surrounding things?

I was able to track the Mannon last October/November across the Atlantic, but she stopped passing weather reports (and therefore location) after she hit the east coast.

You can see the Mannon in port at Port Hueneme in my gallery. (click the camera below) She arrived exactly on time.

Nice pictures of the ship in port! Did you do a fly over or are there some nice webcams you could send me a link for? I'm anxiously awaiting the Madame Butterflys arrival in Port Hueneme on the 11th.

Sorry, no web cam. We made a fly over in a Cessna 152 tail-dragger (for those plane enthusiasts out there, yes, a tail-dragger, a rare but not unheard of 152 configuration.) There is a Panama Canal webcam if madam Butterfly has not made the passage yet, but you can spend a great deal of time watching it for one specific ship.

BillK, I was afraid of that. I knew your pictures were far too nice to be anything other than a private camera. I've already hit the Panama webcam and I am highly unimpressed with the resolution. Even if I miraculously saw my ship go by I'm not sure I would be able to tell.

Just looking for stuff to do while I wait.
