United-States MCS Price Increase, anyone had to pay it yet?

Since they raised the base sticker price on the S, how's this gonna work? I ordered mine in November with a base sticker of 19,449, production started in December, completed Jan 5th, probably will get to the dealer at the end of Jan or so. Will it have a new 2004 sticker with an increased price? Should a dealer honor the price at order time?

Not sure if anyone has ran into this yet. Do stickers get applied at the factory? If so, i guess i'd be in the first group to come off in 2004 and possibly have the new price.

Hey Jim,
I had the same question when I put my order in on the December 29th. The dealer was kind enough to give a copy of the official word from MINI regarding the price increase. Basically, cars that are produced as of Jan 1st, 2004 (such as mine) will have the higher MRSP. Those produced prior will be kept at the pre - MRSP increase price. I have (I hope it works) attached a pdf regarding the announcement. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. I guess what does "produced" mean. Day it started production or day it ended production. Pulling at straws, but i hope day it starts

I ordered mine the day after Christmas from Nashville, at the old price, but my sales guy called me a few minutes later to let me know that anything delivered after Jan 1 is $450 more. Says that for that extra $$$ we get the 3 spoke steering wheel and te digital speed readout and the rear fogs for $100 (or whatever they are).

It sounds like this salesman doesn't know what he's talking about. The 3-spoke is an extra cost option that you'll have to pay for above/beyond the $450 bump and if the dealership is instuiting a policy to charge $450 for cars produced in 2003, but delivered in 2004, then you're looking at a pure grab for extra profit - they're not going to pay more for it because it was delivered in 2004.

I think it all depends on whether the sticker in your door jamb says 12/2003 or 1/2004 as your production date. I don't know whether that sticker date is based on start of production, end, or someplace in between. Luck of the draw probably.

What you pay your dealer is between you and the dealer. If you agreement was to pay MSRP, then you'll probably get stung although some dealers may modify in the name of customer goodwill.

All of you on the fence, I hope you luck out!

Unhappy Yup

Ordered Dec 20th from Otto's MINI in West Chester, PA and it is right on the form.

I knew it was coming before I ordered it so what can you do and at least was right up front with it.. Hey, if that $$$ goes toward quality improvements to get rid of all the problems the early models had then so be it! NO PROBLEM..

I don't disagree with that, although i ordered mine before the price increase announcement, as did i'm sure a lot of others that have a longer wait time than i did.
Sorry, i'm just trying to gain some knowledge and experience so when i do show up to pick up my car, i have some precedence to haggle with them if they do have the extra $$ on there

I did not learn about the price increase until I arrived at Mini of Towson on January 3. They told me I could have had the old price had I ordered on 12/31, or at least that is how I heard what they said. Attempts to get the old price on 1/3 were a complete failure.

Meanwhile, a 10-day old email from my dealer says production will begin late this month and end in early February, with an early March delivery. So far, the web site still says "On Order."

Just picked mine up, and didn't pay the increase. I ordered in November.
Plus now they are not charging $500 for the metallic paint option, and I was given a discount of about $1000 on my '04 MCS

Was the price increase shown on the window sticker? As far as i can tell, anything delivered after Jan 1 will have the new price on the window sticker, put those that had a production date (which i think is when production began) in 2003, get a rebate for the difference.

How'd you manage to get $1000 off? And the upcharge for metalic paint wasn't on the sticker?

I ordered my MCS in early November with delivery scheduled around the end of Feb. I didn't have to pay for the increase. From what my dealer said, only those coopers ordered after Jan 1st will be charged the increase. When you order the car it's pretty much the same as buying it. So why pay extra when you're just waiting for delivery?

Whoever ordered before the new year and then paid the increase has been taken for a ride from their dealer.

I picked up my MCS today. Ordered early Nov, built 2nd week of Jan.
When I ordered, sales guy said I wouldn't have to pay the price increase. When I went to pick up the car, it had the price increase (it was on the sticker too). I brought the issue up with my sales guy. He said that he shouldn't have said that, but it was his mistake so he gave me the old price.
