My MA quoted me a possible April 18th pick-up date... that will satisfy me... a while back I made a deal with myself that I would HAVE my MINI by June, so it looks like I am right on track!

vin to ww

Just curious...bout how long did it take from when you got your VIN until you were able to track it on WW's website?

Last time, my car showed up on the WW site the day after production completed, about two weeks after getting my VIN.

The Takasago has set sail from Southampton! Anyone else's car on board? Debbie, did yours make it?

Hi Ben,

Kind of sad at the moment because I'm not sure if my MINI is on the boat or not. Glad your MINI is on its way though!

Is it possible that all of the data isn't in the computer yet? I'm still showing as 'RECEIVED AT TERMINAL' for that shipment, but it doesn't show anything about it being loaded on the boat. Is there still a chance that it could show up, or am I going to be sad this weekend? Do they overbook the boats and then put on as many as will fit? I hope that's not the case. If so, it's not nice to get a MINI owner's hopes up and then let them down.

Sorry Debbie, but they overbook just like airlines. But you may be on the boat, check the WW site.

But I don't remember anyone offering me $200 to wait for the next boat. I guess that part doesn't work like the airlines. It's actually the WW site that I'm looking at. I guess I will just have to wait and see if the status changes...or if I get moved to a new boat. I knew things were going way to well so far. Thanks for the info.

But your MINI will get free drinks.

Good luck on getting on the boat! I'm afraid there is a backlog of February cars waiting for a ride though. My car should be on the docks next week, I hope yours is on a voyage by then.

United-States Backlog?

Aprilwhine, I just talked to the ASKMINI guy and he told me that our Mini is recieved at terminal so now it's just that waiting game for a boat...but you say there's a bunch of backlogged cars from Feb build still not out? (the guy told me it usually takes a week to 10 days for a ship. was he hoodwinkin' me?) BTW, nothing showed up about my car on the WW site but I guess that should have been expected since our car JUST got to the terminal today.
I suppose this means I have more time to read up on past forums now, huh?

A word of advice in case you haven't read the last several pages. Don't get excited when the WW site shows that you've been booked for a boat. Don't get excited until you see that your MINI is actually on the boat. I'd been on the ceiling since yesterday morning because my car finished prodution the day before and was slated to leave today on the Takasago. The Takasago left today, but sadly I have no idea whether my MINI was on it or not. The status hasn't been updated since yesterday. At present, it's showing that I'm booked for a boat that has already left the port. I have a feeling that it's still sitting at the dock. Not that excitement is bad...but getting let down is not good...so beware of premature excitement. <SIGH> Actually, I'm not as sad as I was earlier today. I just finished reading another thread where a guy has had his MINI or order since October...and he still doesn't even have a build date. I feel lucky...very, very lucky. Okay, it's not working - I'm still sad. BTW, my car appeared in the WW system about 24 hours (roughly) after it was released to the port...if that helps. Welcome to the group. I promise not to depress you. Have a good night.

Thanks dpacker You can't depress me because like you, we too have been lucky with timing. We ordered our mini on the 2nd of March and here it is sitting on the dock already. I too, feel for those who have ordered months ago with no sure signs yet. (I don't know if I would want to go through that or not) As I recently retired, I suppose my job will be to check the WW site daily and update my wife with any news. (it beats working!)
If I read the WW site correctly, the next boat leaving from Southhampton is on 3/22 and then on 3/24 and 3/31. I guess we can only hope our CR/W Coop will be on one of those
Have a good night yourself

I suggest reading through the Motoringfile.com archives starting at the beginning - it's really neat to see that much MINI history... from back when people still didn't know what was going to be in the JCW kits and when the convertible was just a rumor!

At least that's how I've been staying busy

I'm just excited to see that a car creates such a buzz in the people who order it. Hey..I've had sofas from Pottery Barn take longer to show up! We'll all get our MINIs soon...and we'll all forget the short but painfully exciting wait.

You've already had some great answers, but here's my $0.02 also.

Last car, I was on a boat in one day. But I have since heard that is unusually fast, but maybe you will get lucky this time.

My car is scheduled to be completed on March 21 and it's possible we will share a ride. Hope yours gets out earlier though.

Missed The Boat

Well, it's official - I missed the boat - the Takasago that is. WW no longer shows me attached to that boat - there's now no tracking information on my VIN. I guess that means it's time to wait for a new boat. It's okay though - I had last night to prepare myself.

Congratulations to Ben though - his car has been on the boat since yesterday, and is happily on the way to Charleston, SC. It's probably dreaming of meeting its new owner and conquering those curvy roads in the mountains!

Have a good day everyone! Debbie

no worries Debbie, as mine took the same round...missed its first boat with WW and three days later I found out I was on a NYK or K-Line vessel coming my way. So your wait shouldn't be to much longer then expected.

Yeah! Paint shop today!

Don't worry Debbie, there are lots of WW boats scheduled in the very near future. I posted the schedule earlier in this thread.

something to pass the time

Hey there,

Just called ASKMINI..they said that my car started production on March 15th at 8ish in the morning...that's just 5 days after I ordered it. Found this article in the New York times..it's old..but still interesting. It's called "What to Expect When You're Expecting a Mini-Cooper"

Check it out!
