| It's here... | I'm back from sydney and have a nice new sparkly MINI Cooper S! Blow by blow for those that are interested - Flew from Canberra to Sydney at 10:30am yesterday morning arived in sydney at 11:35am. Caught a cab from the airport to the dealership, the excitement was certainly building through the flight and at arrival at the airport. Arrived at the MINI Garage Rushcutters Bay Sydney at aproximately 12:30pm. My MA Warren greets me at the door and tells me he has some bad news, the car is here and looks wonderful but it's not as ordered...I was just about to go off my tree in a moment of rage and he tells me that all of the ordered features are in the car but the car has been delivered with an armrest and the bluetooth kit from the factory to them. He laughs and explains that I'm luck cause they will just give me the options for free! Awesome! Now I'm completely stoked! As we walk into the dealership my new toy is sitting their front and centre, looking ever so pretty. We run through all the necessary paperwork and an overview of the cars features - did I mention how beautiful it looks? 2:30pm comes and Warren and I have finished the overview, this beautiful car is all mine now! I drive out of the dealeship to make my way home - a nice 320 kilometer (200 mile) journey. First impressions - Wow! I'm stoked, drive out of the dealer into the thick friday afternoon Sydney traffic. The car is magnificent. Everything is perfect. Make my way through the city to the highway, not a rattle, not a shake, having a little play with all the gadgets and just generally enjoying the expeience of driving a new car that has been built just for me and something that I have had to wait 3 months to collect. Power is fantastic even though having to keep the revs under 4500 and no full throttle. Onto the freeway and this little car really shines. Th 3 hour trip home was just a blur. About half way the rain comes down and a little later there is fairly intense fog but my MINI took it all in stride. Fantastic torque from such a small engine, the little MINI was just starting to remind me I not only bought it for looks but also for its performance. Overtaking on the highway in 6th is not a problem. 2 small issues are all I have to report - 1. a small amount of creaking from the centre armrest. (no big deal) 2. MINI bluetooth is having some compatibility issues with my mobile phone (no big deal seeming the bluethooth was free!) All in the car was delivered to me with 27 kilometers on the clock...it now has 370 and each one has bought a smile to my face. I'm off to wash it and perhaps a quick photo shoot so I have some glossies to show you all. Thanks to everyone for you support and information through the long wait. Cheers, Slide-o-rama |

| MINI2 Regular | Great, Aprilwhine! It'll be a fun trip, I know. Turns out I'll be on Ocracoke earlier--at the busiest time of the summer season (first two weeks of August) as it's the only time my Dutch relatives can make it over. We'll deal--it's still relatively lowkey there even with the summer crowd. And it's really not so overgrown, not on Ocracoke itself--there are miles and miles of national protected seashore. A short walk down the beach and you're completely on your own. Have a great run. I hope you'll post some pics. |

| Dead Man's Curve? Feh. | Hmmmm...there's a small possibility that we could make this - a lot depends upon Mrs. Pamlico's vacation time. Right now she's scheduled about a month earlier, but let's see. If we do this the MINI will probably stay at home as we have a small 4wd that we drive on the beach and makes Ocracoke a lot more enjoyable. There's a chance I may be out at Ocracoke next weekend (5/14 & 15). I'm helping one of our daughters driver her car to Chapel Hill where she'll be working over the summer. We have relatives in CH and there's been a discussion about Sat & Sunday on Ocracoke. The problem is that I end up doing a lot of driving, which I'd prefer not to do. We'd planned on not going to Ocracoke this year, but it keeps calling to us. |
