Offline | Are ECU mods/re-maps detectable come service time ? My question... Ordering a Cooper S as my company car. If I go down the ECU upgrade option, will it be detectable when I take it in for a service ? Can't really start bolting stuff to it as that would be obvious but figured I may get away with an ECU mod if the dealer can't tell. Don't want to be lumbered with a bill for the car if I go ahead... Can anyone help ? Thanks Gary |

Offline | "routine" servicing should not be a problem However the modifications would be relatively easy to be detected if someone were looking ie insurance company following a total loss/bmw trying to get out of paying a warranty claim. If you want to modify your mini do so with a pulley change/ecu upgrade rather than a ecu upgrade alone (?£600vs ?£300). However if you are worried about detection then the gains from an ecu upgrade alone are probably not worth the worry! I suppose the ecu upgrade can be reversed particularly if you buy the lead / upgrade programme yourself or your upgrader is local. Some jobsworth dealers would be only too happy to shop you to BMW. I suspect Max has a very, very understanding dealer. There have been warranty claims (including Max) on modified cars in the UK with varying levels of understanding on the part of BMW/dealers |

Offline | i called and asked before i got anything Im in colorado, but before i got a 15% pulley and intake, i called my dealer and he said that they expect people to mods their mini's and said try to order my stuff from minimania.com because they are affiliated compaines and my dealership honors the warranties on their products. Ummm, im not sure on your dealership, but like everyone else says, call and ask. Its the best thing to do. just a little side note, when i ordered my mini, i asked them to install the 15% pulley when it arrived and they were like "any others mods you would like before you take delivery?" thats service for ya![]() |
