Australia Running in procedure

I'm looking at some dealer demo MCS's at the moment. All have around 1k klm's on the clock.

While these cars have a price advantage over a new car ( already registered/no delivery fee etc.) , I have concerns about whether they would be better than buying a brand new mini.

My query is whether the demo cars would have been run in correctly or whether minis have to be run in correctly anyway?
I'm thinking that anyone test driving a MCS is going to put it through its paces and maybe that's not good for a tight engine and drivetrain.

Am I right?

Don't know for sure Coach, I think your dealer would have a lot to do with that. I bought a demonstrator MCSa, and did not worry too much about it.

My dealer is pretty carefull with their cars. Also, with the automatic, there are computer safeties in the engine and transmission controls. It is virtually impossible to lug the engine, or overspeed the engine in the automatic. The MINI warranty, and the quality of service from the dealer is a large factor.

I trust my dealership service department, and the warranty is for as long as I plan on keeping the car.

There is a nice wishy washy answer for you. If the car had not been exactly what I wanted, I would have ordered a new one. The price break was not that significant.

$1 a mile reduction. I asked if they had one with 20,000 miles on it, but they didn't!

erm, i didnt notice my demo mileage until i'd been driving it for a week..it read 80 miles...considering that it was an S and i was used to my JCW it didnt probably get the text book running in

that said however, i'm don't really believe that running is as critical as is indicated...tests done on jap motorcycles where bikes were thrashed 24/7 around a track with no regard were compared to rule book run in engines and the two were incomparable in wear terms and performance.

its not like a dealer car is going to be thrashed on a bench at 7000rpm for 10 hours anyway. The drive train is pretty solid anyway, and cars can take longer than 1250 miles to "loosen up" anyway.

one advantage of a dealer car is all the little faults etc should be fixed so the car demonstrates a tickety boo example of what a mini should be like and it should be immaculate as well.

If its a demo, perhaps ask if you can test drive it for a weekend...if it feels good go with it Hell, if its only had 500 miles on it then there is a chance they all could be good ones.

Mini's are strong buggers anyway, thats why you can get 300hp out of the lump and still use the same gearbox...they can take any little bit of spanking i'm sure....my jcw isnt run in to the rule book either and nor have any of my cars except my old blueprinted a series, but thats when engines needed to be, and that was only for 400miles.

Thanks Jim Ray and bimini. Sounds like a weekend test would prove or disprove my theory doesn't it? I appreciate your opinions. Thanks again.

Let us know what you decide, no matter what you get, if it is a MINI, you will like it.
