| MINI2 Senior | It's a 4- 5 hour job if you have done it before and you are confident with working in small spaces, and can be done without the level of disassembly shown Xtreem's picture... To get the supercharger off without removing the entire front of the car is possible. I would drain the coolant out as well and remove the supercharger with the water pump as a unit so that you can reattach them properly with both parts off of the car. The only other 'fiddly' bit is getting the intake manifold off on my car because the studs on the head are slightly too long and catch on the output intercooler snoot. Other than that, it's easy. Just be careful not to introduce anything into the intake path i.e. bits of grit etc when putting the supercharger back on, otherwise you will end up with a rather expensive paperweight! Hope that helps. Henry |

| MINI2 Senior | Who the hell did the work on that?! The bloomin alternator looks like it's gonna rip the connectors off of the wires...it wouldn't have been much more extra work to take the alternator off to eliminate potential problems down the line but oh well Henry p.s. it's not that scray a job...get yourself a decent tool kit and get cracking ![]() |

Offline | Why it may be possible to do the job with less dis-assembly than mine it would be a bugger of a job, Its well worth making some work space in my opinion. The alternator doesnt need to come off like in Max's photo, you just lossen the bolts and the charger will slip out. John. |

Offline | It can be done with the radiator support in the service mode and without draining the radiator; as long as you don't have a problem with hyper-extending the elbows. However, it helps to have experience from doing it once with the front end off. If you take off the water pump at the same time be sure to replace at least the external o-ring. Whichever method you chose to approach this, replace the green rubber/plastic supercharger intake gasket and the metal output gasket. Plan ahead, consolidate maintenance, and torque the idler pulley to spec along with all the other bolts (a loose idler pulley can contribute to poor belt health). |
