12.0@115 isn't exactly typical for an Evo from what I've seen. Nor ir 15.0@94 for a 185whp Mini.

My first time at the Pod I ran against a standard Evo VII FQ-300 - it ran a 14.4@101. Even after he got his launch technique sorted he could only run 13.8@102.

I've run various cars that would absolutely spank that. Even my Mini - standard JCW at the time on S-Lites - ran a 14.6@97. That would give a poorly launched Evo a bit of a scare. Give me another 30 or 40 bhp and then I think you'd really put the wind up a few people.

We'll be up at Santa Pod for the 1st rwyb of the year Sunday Jan 22nd, we're lucky that we're only 30 mins away from the Pod.

If you get up early enough you should be able to do it in 2 1/2 hrs legally

Cost wise it was £10 each to get in and £12 to sign on for as many goes as you like in 2005.

Your best bet is get there for 8.00am get your car first in the que, Thats what we do because we know the track will be at its best.

The best bit of all is hanging out with like minded people who are all after one thing, a timeslip with a quicker time on it than the one before

Its the driver, not the car!
Evos and Minis are in totally different leagues, but yes, a poorly driven Evo might give you a chance in the first meters, and that's hard to swallow since MINIS are terribly sluggish off the line, specially the ones with the heavy S-lites, including mine. My best 60' was 2.3, and believe me I tried everything to improve it.

Anyways, 12.0 is achievable in a Evo-8 with just bolt-ons. Mine has 300 whp with just the average mods and a conservative tuning. Most of Evos at the local dragway are well into 12's with similar mods, some of them high 11's, and of course a couple running 13's because they haven't learned yet how to launch with an AWD. Believe me, the guy who was driving that FQ300 in 13.8@102 did not sorted out his launching technique like you said. I attached my time slip plus the dyno sheet. This 12.0 was not a lucky run since most of my times are within 12.1-12.4 with a best 115 mph. All with 93 pump gas.

BTW, your MINI has one of the best 1/4 mile I've ever seen on a JCW/210bhp conversion. 14.6 at 97 is outstanding, but what really impresses me is the trap speed, which shows that your car must be pulling around 210/220 WHP, around 245 bhp. Congrats.

All you had to do is put a nitrous kit on and you could be running 12s in the Mini

I did not show any sign of arrogance matey, I just gave you my point of view regarding your comment. I love my S to bits; it handles like no other and it performs decently on a straight line, but I haven't been able to "scare" any of those Jap beasts. I tried once with a STI but after keeping up I noticed that it was driven by an 80 year old granny. Fast cars can be pretty slow in the wrong hands. But hey, if you think that your S is almost as fast as a RWD 300hp RX-7, then congrats.

13.8 for an evo is quite slow, most probably saving his clutch or something

I managed in my P1 a 12.9 @ santa pod and most evo's are around this time...

There is no way on earth you are gonna scare these cars from a standing start

I always find it difficult to have these discussions on a forum, since I always sound like I'm having a go at people - but I'm not honest

I'm under no illusion that my Mini is "fast", but I do think that when you turn up at the Pod it in everybody thinks that it's completely outclassed by their <insert car here>. This does lead to the odd scare for people.

The best thing I saw last time was a couple of Vauxhall Novas running very low 12s at well over 110. That was pretty cool.

Yeah agree with ya there....you just never know what they have done to their car....when i had my scoobies i always prefered to go against evo's porsche, ferrari etc than the £500 shed with no seats(except the drivers )and god knows what else that has been done to the car....if i beat the evo/porsche/ferrari<Insert supercar here>...much kudos for me ...but being beaten by the £500 <enter shed name here> car is quite embarrasing especially with all the crowd hoping it will beat ya ....when ya get to the end of the strip just keep driving out of the gates

Street Sleepers are the best race cars in the world, people earn a lot of money in the US with that sort of car.

Thats why our Mini One still has the Mini One exhaust tailpipe, always bring a to my face knowing it runs 12s with a pea shooter exhaust sytem

Having owned both a mildly tuned Evo VI Makinen (filter/exhaust/flywheel it made 260bhp at the wheels with a 24% transmission loss) and a JCW I think I can comment fairly here. Please don't mention the two in the same sentance, they are very different cars full stop. The Evo is in a different league, probably a couple or three above the Mini. It would tonk it out of site on the road or on the strip. The JCW (or tuned S's etc) are quick but the Evo (even more so when tuned) is a different animal! I sold mine because I'm only 23 and have recently bought a house so couldn't afford both. The JCW is fantastic and great fun but once I can afford another I'll be back in an Evo
