Only 4 days after collecting my MCSa, the MPG is starting to get to me - after only half a days normal driving (lots of 3-4 min journeys) the car seems to drink like it's going out of fashion, and I'm not even caning it (still in break in period. Now I've read that a re-map might help with fuel economy, notwithstanding the performance gains , something like MTH or the like - what would you guys suggest?

give it a chance to settle in the engine is tight at the moment

as for loads of short journeys it will drink fuel

I agree. First, an automatic will use more gas than a manual. Add to that the fact that you drive a lot of short trips and your gas mileage is not looking too good. I wouldn't expect you to really get much better mileage after the engine gets broken in more. No car is are going to get close to their advertised mileage when driven like that.

1.Make sure you run it in nicely.
2.Make sure tyres are all up to pressure
3.Get an uprated IC [GRS or GTT I would suggest] , I kid you not
Id say go for a pulley and remap too.

Yep, am trying to run it in nicely, not going over 4000rpm at all. Got new alloys with new tyres, was thinking about a remap that I could just overwrite come servicing time so that it would not affect my warranty - or am I just being naive?

Hi

A remap only works if you change up sooner, using the extra torque, so I'm not sure if this would work on an auto.

You will see a big difference once youve done a few thousand miles.

I get around 250 miles to a tank of 99ron on my tuned (220) s.

Didnt find any better with my GRS ic.

I know motorways get good mileage but I average about 380 miles to the tank on 99ron and once got 466 miles on the Range reading on the computer just after fillup (although we all know how accurate that is!!!). I leave the ragging to the weekend to use up the dregs of the last tank when the car is lighter and I am not stop starting in commuter traffic.

I am getting about 21 mpg in my (2 year old) MCS (I've owned it 3 months). This is mainly town driving for about 5 miles each way. This seems rather crap and the best mpg I've got is 23 driving really carefully.

I considere this to be below what is the norm and have booked it into the Cotswold dealer for them to have a look. I'm half expecting them to say "..they all do that sir..", but you never know.

I just felt that this being a 2005 car, it'd be more fuel efficient, rather than a guzzler - bit disconcerting watching the needle go down whilst pootling around town
