New to upgrades - Looking for info

I've got a '05 MCSC automatic (yeah I know). I'm looking into adding some oomph to my already wonderful car. Further stats are in my profile.

I am looking to get the most bang for my buck.

I've looked at this site, the JCW site and the Dinan site and am a bit confused/overwhelmed by it all.

My main concerns are warranty (I don't want to void it), insurance (I'm in the US), and cost.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what upgrades I can get, approx costs and benefits.

Thanks

As all non MINI & JC mods can invalidate your warranty, you have very little choice. However, try going to www.johncooper.co.uk and send them a mail. They might have some ideas for you.

Good luck!

Biggest bang for the buck is putting a reduction (15% is most common) pulley on your supercharger ... about $400 for part and installation.

Going JCW route is expensive but fully warranted. Dinan warranty is only good at authorized Dinan dealers and will not be honored at MINI USA level. Aftermarket is cheapest route but if something fails and can be traced back to aftermarket part, it will not be fixed under warranty.

Before you do any mods that are not JCW (which obviously keep your warranty intact) you should get on a board and ask the members in your area what they have done and if they have had any problems with the warranty at their neighborhood MINI dealership.

Here in DFW, my Service advisory told me straight out that he wouldn't invalidate a warranty for ANY CAI. When I had them install mine, he even asked which one they were installing for me (I went JCW).

Try this site, join the forums, and ask around. Then go to a meeting and do some group motoring.

Good post MINIAC, if you do mail JCW be prepared for a wait. I usually get a reply in about 4 working days, and that's quick! (I do live a couple of miles from the original garage, and it's quicker to just pop in!!!)

thanks for the posts. What will a new pulley do for me hp or acceleration wise.

Also what about a chip or a remap?.

I don't care about new sound, badging or any of that.

According to Randy Webb, who has done more pulley installs than anyone:

16 horsepower and 11 ft/lbs torque
