Offline | Gas milage on MCS!!! Is it normal to get 18 MPG (or 230-235 miles per tank) on my '05 MCS on a mixed cycle? I have 4k miles and believe engine has been properly run-in. I took my car to two different dealerships and all they say is that I "have to understand that this is a turbo car and I will never get the EPA milage declared on the sticker" and "you have to run the engine in up to 15k to start feeling any difference in the gas milage." Franky speaking, I have a strong feeling that dealers just do not want to deal with the warranty work and trying to get rid of me by telling me all those stories. Any suggestions? | Trained Monkey | 18 mpg is not great, but it depends how "enthusiastic" you are behind the wheel, and also if you do a lot of stop start driving? The car's supercharged for a start, so I hope the dealers didn't tell you about it being turbo, or I'd be worried starting right there! I would expect in the region of 21.5 to 24 mpg depending on how and where I drove it, I suppose my average was around the 22.5 for regular town driving. Offline | Gas milage Maybe my calculations are wrong, but I get 230-235 miles per tank, and on my last trip to a dealer they measured my tank at 13.2 gallons. And yes, dealer specifically noted that "turbo cars use more gas" |

Online | When it comes to MPG, the terms "city driving" and "mixed driving" aren't very meaningful. If you have an OBC it's more meaningful to report the MPH you average per tank in addition to your MPG. As an example, the worst I've gotten in my 2002 MCS was 17 MPG when I averaged 15 MPH driving solely on the streets of San Francisco. On the other end of the spectrum, I've done 16K miles of driving at highway speed on trips to SoCal and Oregon, averaging 31 MPG. The more stop and go driving you do in an MCS the more your MPG will suck ![]() |

Offline | I have a 2005 MCS with 6K miles on it. I am getting 29 MPG pretty consistently with mixed highway and city driving. I was getting around 25 during the first month of new car enthusiastic driving. Are you new to driving with a stick shift? If so, let an experienced stick shift driver watch you drive and see if you are shifting ok. Just an idea. Or take it to another MINI dealer. |

Offline | No, I drive stick shift for the past 9 years or so. As far as MINI dealers, the ones that I went to saying that 230-235 miles per tank is absolutely normal. Maybe it's just me, but I take everything a dealer says with a grain of salt. Last edited by misha : Oct 26th, 2005 at 03:52 AM. |
