new to the mini cooper

right now i have a golf . i plan on gettign a cooper s soon and was just wondering what the might 1.6 engine can handel. how much power can the engine take before you need to forge the internals. what kind of after market stuff is there for the cooper s and what kind of power gains are you looking at when a CAI or an Exhaust are added.
