Optimax or Ultimate?

Just a quick question, which fuel is better shell optimax or bp ultimate? Both are supposed to clean, but are both higher RON? I think ultimate is 97 RON, not sure about optimax though, the shell website does not say.

Any opinions?

yeah I thought it was around 98 or 99 RON. I prefer Optimax - have tried both, but went back to Optimax though as my MCS just seemed to prefer it over the Ultimate

hey, i've heard that optimax is rated 98RON from the refinary, and BP Ultimate is rated as 102RON from the factory. I've only heard it from one person, but it sorta feels as if the ultimate burns better. However, i've tried both, and although the ultimate is much smoother, the optimax feels more powerful and more responsive.

My two cents.

Both Optimax and Ultimate are from the same Shell refinery!!

Shell has 99ron, and ultimate has 98 ron.

Both help your engine to be cleaner in polution terms and in engine terms. They also give your engine a bit more off the mark responce (Like pulling out at a junction or roundabout).

For the price of Ultimate I would go for shell as it is 1p cheaper, so you get better ron but not as deer. (The prices may vary, but round my neck of the woods this seems to be the norm)!!!

I am sticking with ultimate... rumour is that the quality of optimax is not what it was when first released and that the ultimate is better

This is interesting, our other car is pretty highly tuned and it really only runs smoothly on optimax and 98 ron fuels when we are abroad. As soon as you get a couple of tank fulls of BP ultimate into it performance defiantely degrades and its noticeably quieter on the overun.

just from my observations...
my car seems to run better and is less thirsty using shell optimax
doesn't last as long as is noisier with bp ultimate?
just what i've noticed...could be my imagination

wils

i got an exhaust because i wanted to make my car sound fast, but its not fast at all, so therefore i am a ricer....

it seems to be more thirsty on ultimate with me too, and less responsive, and less overrun burble too, but i think there's more octane in ultimate, so i'll stay on ultimate...

so ur happy to stay on something that costs u more money coz u have to go fill it up more often, makes ur car noisier and slower just because someone once told u that there's more octane in it? well it's ur car, so ur choice haha
i was told that optimax wasn't as good as ultimate or mobile 8000 coz they said that those ones were richer in octane but then after testing again and again i kept finding that my car prefered optimax
so i stuck to it...oh well it's really up to personal preference anyway

Maybe good marketing, but in my experience talented engineers like Rowland @ GTT recommend Optimax and that's what I use
