supercharger & TB failure

Hey, was going down to race on spa/the ring when 20km of the boat my engine stops.

no power, all lights on, pull to the side... drivebelt is in lots of nice small pieces, engine is boiling and the supercharger doesn't spin.

was useing a 19% reductionpully that was put in at 20.000km, it died at 56000km

I had to replace the supercharger, waterpump, misc pullys & drivebelt, then it was driveable, but after some minutes of driveing the engine would go into EML mode and diagnostic say lmm and dsc were dead, the problem turned out to be the TB itself not the lmm or dsc system which my dealer told me was a "regular" problem... the damn TB cost me 900USD there. and the SC + misc 1800EURO in germany

I think there was a service bulletin that the early superchargers had a bad coating on rotors? well. its true and none of it was coverd on my warranty as my warranty expired 1month ago the bmw dealership gave me warranty on the 19% reduction when i bought the car from them used.

ruined my weekend at the tracks, but my friends let me lend their porsches so it was OK

on a sidenote I changed catalytic converter and clutch 2weeks before this :|

So the charger was seized? How was the water pump damaged?

Expensive, and unlucky with the warranty period, but I'd say the car has served you well considering the stress its run on and these are the risks you take.....

Yes it is, so if the charger seizes the water pump stops and the engine over heats like it did. But why/how was the water pump damaged?

yeah just bit bad as I bought new brakes, rims, streetslicks, cat, clutch and misc stuff for it

I gotto replace the inner fenders and get new wider fender flares + centerbore spacers :| ohh well it's fun.

It's taken plenty of abuse yes, lots of trackdays locally and quite a few trips to the ring.

on a sidenote we killed a porsche 2004 345HP engine as well so 2 out of 5 cars died

why waterpump died? no idea, could be they just replaced it since it was worn allready as a pre service thing. they replaced pretty much every moving part around the engine.

Well if your running a 19% pulley, and the waterpump is drivien from the same drive, would this mean the waterpump is possibly running under stress too - or are they not linked like that...?

No, only the supercharger is rotateing faster, I'm guessing something broke when engine boiled since pump wasn't turning if something broke at all, the local dealer replaced the TB yesterday with no luck, car ran like **** and EML and check engine came on later :| they re upgradeing ECU to stock and trying a new LMM now

Yes the water pump is turning faster with a 19% but I cant see how it got damaged from the charger seizing. Once the charger seized the pump cant work!!

Good luck with the fix, let us know the end result!

slight update, I got them to reset the ECU and put new firmware in, and reset TB settings etc, that seems to have fixed it, down to stock boost though, car really is slow.. but haven't driven a stock cooper S in 2 years so I will get one to try.

the stock TB was probably fine and they were just replaceing parts wildly.

now.. the car has had small damage everytime it's been to this shop.. this time someone hit it while parked, new new front fender, door & back fender repair + paint.

someone basicly drove down the hole side.. yay!

so car is fixed.. but crashed.. so i can't get it for some time.

yes, totally stock

I'm kinda sick of everything now, hopefully it will be fixed and I will be happy again. When I'm done I will change shops for sure.
