New to Mini - new owner with modification ?'s

Hello All:

I am in the U.S. and purchased my first Mini Cooper (Non - S model) I have been around sports cars for a while and use to autocross and race RX-7's. I am wondering if someone could help with their opinions on performance parts for the Mini Cooper. I want to do an exhaust system, Intake, ECU reprogram, and possible cam. I want to do everything at seperate intervals since I cannot afford to buy everything at once. What is the best exhaust for HP and TQ gain, without going to a super noisy exhaust. I do want some growl, but don't want to tick off the neighbors. What about intake systems and ECU upgrades? Are there good and bad ones out there? Cams too? I think I'd like to get about 150 HP from my non supercharged motor, is this doable with the above mods?

Are there people in this forum that are in the USA (accross the pond)? Any help would be appreciated!

thanks!!!

Depending on which company, most ECU remaps will take it up to 130bhp, add an exhaust system most claim close to ten hp gains, plus a manifold should take it close to 150. so thats around £600-700 , dont know about dollars.
Im not sure how much stress the new gearboxes can take i heard 150 is the reccommended but im not entirely sure.

I'm going to go with MTH eventually; a lot of people reccommend it, there is a huge thread in this section about it with a lot of information.also have a look at the sponsors directory at the top of this page, a lot of links should keep you a while.

Have a look at Bluefin...i might go for that or the AMD one click. They both report over 10bhp gains (ECU remapping) and they both can be reversed easily.

I have a Miltek Cat back system - not sure how much gains but as its only a cat back, mebbe only 3-5 max. If you get the manifold as well then you might see a 10bhp in total from the exhaust.
Also have the Pipercross PK222 - not sure if any gains since its a standard induction kit with drawbacks in overheating. But i think on motorway and stuff there should be some minimal gains.

If u have the 55' model car, the engine mount is slightly different so u need to adjust a bit to fit the induction kit nicely in.

I also think the OMP strut braces (upper and lower) are both good fits and will help handling and cornering.

I am thinking of flywheel and cam sometime after my ECU remap.

Cheers,

David

Thanks Dave. I assume that these products are from the UK, but will fit my US model accross the pond.

Check the sponsor directory for US companies. MTH is very much international though, as are most companies online (they send the data etc. via computer).
