| Lost in Mini2 | News... MINI 4X4 Just been reading a article in the daily telegraph motoring section. Getrag have adapted a cooper s with 4wheel drive, with a system called twinster. Looks promising... as adds little weight and cost. The system uses a power take off unit from the gearbox, which then delivers the power through a propshaft and differential to the rear wheels, all managed by a elctronically controlled a limited-slip diff. It also uses the ABS and ESP to detect yaw and slip movements of the wheels. Would be great for the winter i think... ![]() |

Offline | Wanted one in 2004, still want one now. I don't think BMW sell the 4WD 5 series in the UK. But 4WD BMW saloons are not without precedent. Perhaps this story has resurfaced because they are thinking of selling a 4WD mini?. When rumours of a 350bhp RS3 came out (probably not true) many people put down deposits only to be disapointed, a 300bhp 4WD mini would be unstopppable (and put an M3 to shame) -which is probably why we won't get one (BMW admitting Audi were right all along-what are the chances of that?) |

Offline | Not much chance of Mini pushing the engine to 300bhp though. But i'd be happy with a 225bhp four wheel drive mini....then twin charge it....hahahahahahaha (Evil laughs) |

![]() Play On! | While at the BMW CCA Oktoberfest (in September . . . ) I had a conversation with a MINI club racer who is also a sales rep for the Winston-Salem North Carolina BMW/MINI dealership: Getrag transmissions are built near Winston-Salem. Bookie Binkley, who is an active MINI club racer and Flow BMW sales rep, recently got a call from the factory. Would you mind, they asked, testing our all wheel drive transmission and letting us know what you think? Sure enough, they gave him a MINI mule with the pre-production transmission to evaluate. He was quite amazed with the performance, saying that with it he’ll be better able to compete in his club racing class where his MINI is about 10 seconds slower than other cars. Bookie also noted that the all wheel drive system has been tested in Europe where it beat a MINI with a stock two-wheel drive transmission around a 2.5 mile course by 8 seconds!
